UPMC is actively seeking a Director, Account Management to support the UPMC Health Plan!  This Director will be for the UPMC/ Tower Health Joint Venture in the Eastern, Pa region.  We are looking for a proven leader that has a in depth understanding of managed care and can multi- task in a fast paced environment.


The Director, Account Management will be a Monday through Friday full time role. The role will require travel throughout these counties: Chester, Bucks, Schuylkill, North Hampton, Leigh, Berks, Carbon, Lancaster, Montgomery. As well, travel to Pittsburgh, Reading and surrounding hospitals for meetings and/or trainings. 

The Director, Account Management is responsible for the overall account management and wellness activities of the UPMC Health Plan's large, mid and small market commercial insurance products, including account implementation, account retention and customer communications/relationships. This position reports to the Vice-President of Regional Network Management/Tower Health Joint Venture. This role will include (1) implementation and ongoing servicing of the accounts (2) serve as an information and liaison between all parties involved in the clients integrated account management (3) work with client leadership to establish strategic goals and objectives related to wellness accounts and provide benefit recommendation through regular and annual business planning in the eastern Pennsylvania region.



  • Analyze appropriate data and programmatic options for wellness programs
  • Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Hires, trains and retains a competent staff of account managers, including staff development.
  • Implement company initiatives such as managed drug formulary, legislative and regulatory mandates and new products and services.
  • Lead new account implementation, renewal negotiations, retention planning, and relationship building as well as overall customer communications.
  • Protect existing client base by developing strategies to increase market penetration and to prevent account termination.
  • Provides input and acts as a liaison for Medicare and Medicaid account management activities.
  • Responsible for all account management and wellness functions in the Eastern PA market, including managed care products, funding mechanisms and consumer directed services.
  • Responsible for membership forecasting, development of goals, and budgeting.
  • Serve as the escalated communication link for all parties involved with contracted services including employee, client/company representatives, healthcare providers, union officials, or other UPMC WorkPartners professionals.



  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or related field required
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration preferred
  • Five years account management experience in the health insurance industry or managed care industry is required
  • Proven track record in managing a business unit and client relationships
  • Financial/Marketing analysis experience required
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Must possess a working knowledge of all business functions, including media relations, sales and marketing, accounting, medical management, provider relations, community relations and human resources
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
  • Highly effective written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven skills and knowledge of employee benefits in terms plan design, compliance, and operation.
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and management skills

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    PA Health and Accident License required within 90 days of hire.
