This position is for a Research Coordinator involved in patient-related studies. This position will involve contact with study participants, scheduling appointments, administering research questionnaires, follow-up of study participants, collecting, entering and verifying data, assisting in quality control procedures and general clinical research assistance.

This position will provide research support to the NIA funded Alzheimer Disease Research Center, and other ancillary AD-related neuroimaging projects. Incumbant will identify subjects appropriate for various ADRC-related neuroimaging studies (including screening for inclusion/exclusion criteria); recruit subjects into studies; coordinate travel arrangements; review informed consent document with subjects; schedule MR and PET studies; accompany subjects to imaging sessions; maintain study-related case-report forms; maintain IRB/IND required documentation; assist with IRB submission and recruitment/enrollment data management; participate in ADRC consensus conferences.

This position is grant funded. 

  • Administer questionnaires, and assist with procedures for obtaining patient screening and recruitment as well as obtaining research specimens.
  • Assist in data collection and data entry and quality control of data.
  • Assist in hypothesis generation, data collection, data analysis and data presentation and publication.
  • Assist in recruiting subjects for the ADRC projects and related neuroimaging studies. Attend ADRC consensus conference to identify potential subjects. Screen potential subjects for inclusion/ exclusion criteria and interact with patients and study partners to describe the research studies. Review informed consent document with subjects in preparation for final consent with study co-investigator.
  • Assist study investigators with the development of IRB protocols and consent forms and initiate modifications and annual reports. Track & manage enrollment and dropout records.
  • Complete online IRB certification modules 1 and 2 (Research Practice Fundamentals) in accordance with Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of MRI and PET studies for subjects. Escort subjects and caregivers to and from the MR/PET facility and coordinate subject payment. Coordinate with ADRC and study clinicians to ensure that proper neuropsychological testing is performed on the research subjects. Coordinate transportation (limo) service to Oakland , depending on project. Responsible for seeing that the overall needs of the subejcts are met during their neuroimaging study sessions.
  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Maintain a safe clean laboratory-working environment including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage, by conforming to laboratory and hospital policies and standards.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including timely ordering and receipt of required supplies and their proper storage.
  • Organize and prepare annual progress reports to funding agencies
  • Organize information for the weekly Consensus Conference and weekly Subject Recruitment meetings. Present cases for suitability to the various PET imaging protocols.
  • Perform duties for approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, and storage of data.
  • Process, label, store and ship blood specimens obtained from research subjects.
  • Revise, renew and maintain IRB approval, protocols and consent forms for studies.


  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience and training - including 3-5 years of experience in coordinating multiple aspects of research projects (patient recruitment, assessment, treatment planning, and data collection) required.
  • Geriatric/Psychiatric research experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Exercise independent judgement and assess the eligibility of potential subjects and families to comply with protocols. 
  • Comprehensive and accurate record keeping. 
  • Careful attention to daily program operations.  
  • PC computer skills including Microsoft word /Excel.
