Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation is actively seeking a full-time Associate Director, Strategic Initiatives. Our Foundation is the sole fundraising arm of the renowned UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The Foundation exists to provide financial support for the hospital’s mission of excellence in patient care, teaching and research. The Foundation is a public charity under 501(c)(3) and 170(b)(1)(A) of the Internal Revenue Service Code.

As Associate Director, reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives (VPSI), you will be responsible for the strategic planning, management, implementation, and oversight of projects that support complex strategic initiatives identified by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) and CHP Foundation leadership. In addition to working with institutional leadership, faculty, and volunteers, you will work in a highly collaborative structure including major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, special events, corporate and community fundraising, donor relations, prospect management and research, gift processing, finance and marketing and communications.

  • Actively participate in building a culture of teamwork, collaboration, creativity around strategic initiatives
  • Coordinate interface with consultants and ensure effective use of their services
  • In collaboration with VPSI, develop and implement specific plans, policies, and metrics to meet the foundation's fundraising objectives
  • Liaison with foundation staff for all communication, support, and guidance issues related to strategic initiatives
  • Manage the operational functions of the Strategic Initiatives Department including budgeting and staff onboarding
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the VPSI
  • Produce fundraising progress reports for hospital strategic initiatives and prepare presentations to inform the executive and volunteer leadership and other members of the foundation and hospital
  • Represent the VPSI as needed at internal and external meetings
  • Staff leadership meetings, including relevant board and fundraising steering committees
  • Work closely with the VPSI to identify volunteer leadership and ensure that current volunteer leadership is well placed to serve in effective and meaningful roles Interact regularly with hospital, foundation, and foundation board leadership


  • Bachelor's degree required and Master's Degree in business administration or similar field strongly preferred 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in development and / or institutional advancement in an academic or health care setting 
  • 3+ years of project management and project management software experience
  • Ability to analyze the various fundraising data, make strategic decisions based on that data, and use the information to build and strengthen efforts to support strategic initiatives 
  • Outstanding communication skills and proven analytical abilities 
  • Ability to interact with high-level leaders and donors with the highest level of discretion and professionalism 
  • Travel in support of strategic initiative efforts as needed

  • Act 31 Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
