Falk Pharmacy is an out-patient pharmacy providing care to UPMC employees, and patients from UPMC medical offices, including internal medicine, transplant, arthritis, infectious disease and specialty. We also utilize our interns to help cover Children’s Out-Patient Pharmacy on weekends (approximately 4 hours per day) and one weekday until 7:30pm.


The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for supporting the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients at UPMC. These services will be provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, JCAHO Standards and the mission and policies of the hospital and departments. During the summer of the internship, the time commitment expected is 40 hours/week with alternating day/weekend work; during the school year, we are expecting the interns to work every other weekend (average 4 hours per day) with a minimal time commitment of 8 hours per pay period. Interns will be expected to work 2-3 shifts during each school break dependent on departmental needs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the pharmacist with medication distribution, including but not limited to filling medication orders and maintaining patient profiles.
  • Assists the pharmacist with medication review, including but not limited to computer order entry, monitoring allergies, and evaluating drug interactions.
  • Develops and maintains a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
  • Effectively uses information systems, robotics, and other applications to prepare medication labels, assist with dispensing medications, and prepare drug information responses.
  • Process prescriptions from data entry through billing, including contacting third party plans to resolve claim issues.


Qualifications

  • Must be in good standing in an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum course equivalency of first or second professional year of college of Pharmacy.
  • Preference will be given to 2021 graduates and 2022 graduates.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA is preferred.
  • Must possess good communication and computer skills.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy Intern Certificate Certification is preferred
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
