Responsible for QI activity and supports various functions within the scope of the SCM Quality & Operations Improvement Program, working both independently and as a team member. The functions include but are not limited to education and improvement initiatives, committee support, regulatory and accreditation standard adherence, delegation oversight, performance monitoring and assessment, clinical practice guideline management, data collection, abstraction and analysis and the continual advancement of the quality improvement process as a means to achieve the SCM & UPMC's goals of excellence. Under the general direction of the SR. Quality Improvement Manager the Manager Quality & Operations Improvement will be responsible for optimizing and operational improvement in all of UPMC's facilities for SCM.

  • Ability to actively listen, seek out and consider information objectively, and respond to challenging situations with reason and proportionality.
  • Actively engage in the strategic and operational planning of process improvements Identify business priorities and develop operational programs for implementation.
  • Alleviate bottlenecks and increase productivity by eliminating product storage areas that are congested and confusing.
  • Data analysis of existing processes and information flows
  • Develop facility plans that include changes in layout and product placement to improve the store room operations including optimization of receiving and shipping processes, order fulfillment activities, slotting and material pick paths, space utilization and personnel productivity.
  • Document current state and future state processes using process mapping and other appropriate tools.
  • Ensure proper location coding / product identification through creation and maintenance of all location ID tags.
  • Establish and collect baseline data and then monitor improvement of key performance indicators.
  • Improve worker health and safety by reducing visual search time and strategically placing products to prevent ergonomic problems by placing product in its ergonomically best location.
  • Initiates and facilitates lean improvement programs & activities.
  • Keep customer service levels high and operational costs low.
  • Perform all other related responsibility as required to assure continuity and the efficient operation of the department.
  • Reduce operational costs related to materials management through productivity and efficiency gains.
  • �Complete Finisher� taking accountability for ideas from inception to delivery, in an environment that requires metrics to confirm success.


  • Bachelor Degree is required
    •  OR a two year degree with minimum of two years experience in inventory control, materials management, purchasing or two years of Health Care experience or other related fields is required.  
  • Strong analytical skills, communications skills, and ability to work with a diverse team are required. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and MSOffice product suite is required.
  • Experience in PeopleSoft preferred. 
  • Full working knowledge of Lean Concepts with demonstrated success.
  • Six Sigma experience a benefit Professional certifications (CPM, APICS) a benefit

Salary Range: $23.73 to $40.69 / hour
