UPMC Altoona - Bariatric Program Coordinator - Fulltime - Monday-Friday - 8a.m.-4:30p.m.

 

 

Purpose:
To plan, organize, coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Bariatric Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a liaison for the Bariatric Program with the Department of Nursing working with hospital wide committees to elevate the awareness of bariatric patients; their needs, their concerns, and that the hospital has appropriate equipment to a adequately provide care for these patients. Assists with developing and maintaining a database of information of patients in the Program and review outcomes to improve patient care. Uses knowledge of research process and advanced clinical knowledge from review of current research to improve quality of patient care. Demonstrates commitment to service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
  • Assists in daily operations in collaboration and in absence of the business manager. Possesses excellent knowledge and skills related to the treatment of the clinically severe obese patient. Practices independently to provide care requiring advanced knowledge base and develops plan of care based on nursing research. Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret information considering age specific needs. Coordinates requirements to achieve and maintain Center of Excellence accreditation with the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. Coordinates quality improvement programs related to the total bariatric surgery process and care of the bariatric patient. Works collaboratively with the Bariatric Program Director and other members of the Bariatric Team in identifying problems, formulating solutions and evaluating the system through organized quality assurance programs.
  • Coordinates quality improvement programs and performs data analysis related to the total bariatric surgery process and care of the bariatric patient.
  • Maintain bariatric standards of compliance with all major insurance programs.
  • Oversight and maintenance of the database of information of patients in the program MBSAQIP data entry, and electronic medical record data entry.
  • Provides education for patients, families and staff, including but not limited to, developing and updating patient education manuals/materials, inservice programs, CMU/CEU program development. Actively participates in community support groups and acts as a resource for patients in various stages of the Program: those who desire surgery, those who are immediately post-op and those 1-2 years post-op. Assists in the planning and implementation of bariatric activities and methods for innovative improvement for future growth and development of the Bariatric program. Oversight and maintenance of the database of information of patients in the program, data entry, and electronic medical record data entry. Works with interdisciplinary teams to develop new database and patient tracking tools. In addition this position will review data audits and outcomes to improve patient care.

Qualifications

  • RN required
  • BSN preferred
  • Four years of appropriate clinical experiences as a nurse required, with Bariatric experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with excellent communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of P.C. operations.-

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Registered Nurse
