Description

Purpose:
Under supervision, responsible for accurately performing research projects according to established study design and procedures.

Our OB research department is looking to hire a Research Technician to assist with recruitment of study participants and conducting study visits for our active research projects.  This candidate will interact with pregnant women at UPMC Magee Women's Hospital and their physicians daily, recruiting women to our current research projects.  The Research Technician will be trained in phlebotomy and taking vital signs.  Additional duties will include interviewing study participants, collecting study bio specimens as part of study visits, completing chart abstractions on delivered study participants, and conducting follow up interviews and visits after delivery.


This position is grant funded.



Responsibilities:
  • Administer questionnaires, and assist with procedures for obtaining patient screening and recruitment as well as obtaining research specimens.
  • Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function.
  • Assist in performing research protocol experimental procedures, under close supervision, including appropriate collection, recording, storage and analysis of data.
  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintain scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
  • Maintain a safe clean laboratory-working environment including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage, by conforming to laboratory and Hospital policies and standards.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including timely ordering and receipt of required supplies and their proper storage.
  • Prepare, label, store and dispose of reagents and calibrates equipment for research projects.
  • Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred.
  • One (1) year of college training or one (1) year of experience working within a biomedical research laboratory environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately collect, store and interpret research data. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with patients, staff and investigators. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
