The Geriatric Care Center at UPMC St. Margaret is seeking a board-certified Psychiatrist with experience working with geriatric fellows and family practice residents within the program.     


UPMC St. Margaret Geriatric Care Center is an evaluation and treatment center designed to meet the health needs of people over age 60. Along with specialized medical and psychiatric care, geriatric professionals assist older adults and their families in making health care decisions to fulfill the patient’s daily needs.

 

The Geriatric Care Center at UPMC St. Margaret offers multiple services to support the patient and their families.

  •      Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementias – We provide diagnosis and management for people with memory loss and associated problems. The evaluation may include neuropsychological testing.
  •     Geriatric Medical Assessment – Geriatricians provide thorough evaluation, consultative care, and primary care for seniors who may have:  complex medical problems, multiple medications, confusion and emotional changes that often accompany physical illness, problems with urinary incontinence, frequent falls or balance and mobility problems or a need for comprehensive health care education.
  •     Care Planning Assistance – Our licensed clinical social workers and health care team work together with families to create a plan of care for the older adult. Our goals include:  helping seniors to safely remain in their home as long as possible, assisting in decision making about alternative care options and referring to community resources. 

What would I be responsible for/expect in this position?

  • Provide formal and comprehensive consultation and evaluation – including health history and mental status
  • Evaluation and treatment of patient population over the age of 60
  • Develops plans of care based upon DSM-V diagnoses
  • Management of related medications
  • Orders necessary and appropriate screening and testing, as needed
  • Mentor geriatric fellows and family practice residents within the program
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team of geriatricians, geriatric fellows, clinical pharmacists and social services
  • Charting/documentation in EpicCare
  • Attend departmental meetings as required
  • Administrative participation with practice-specific initiatives
  • Regular – Full Time status
  • Daylight Hours:  8am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday
  • Located at UPMC St. Margaret Geriatric Care Center & 1 day a week at the UPMC St. Margaret Geriatric Care Center, Oakmont
  • Current Staff: Physician, Psychiatrist, Neuropsychologist, Registered Nurse, Clinical Pharmacist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Qualifications

What would qualify me for the position?

  •      Graduate of accredited medical school
  •      MD/DO Licensure required
  •      Licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania
  •      Completion of Geriatric psychiatry fellowship preferred
  •      Board certified in Psychiatry required
  •      Board certified in Adult Psychiatry or Geriatric Psychiatry preferred
