Purpose:


Under the general direction of the management team and senior staff, this mid-level position assist with day to day support of database systems. Maintain systems, identify and resolve issues or problems that arise within the database software with minimal supervision. This position will assume On-Call support responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Auditing - Respond to requests from Internal Audit, external auditors as directed and SOX requirements.
  • Customer Service - Maintains professional relationship with application owner/teams, provide support as needed. Facilitate a productive dialogue relative to the success of the services provided.
  • Database Availability - Learn and follow change control procedures for work impacting database availability.
  • Database Management - Support multiple implementations at various versions and support levels. Install, configure and provide day to day support after implementation, including off hours as needed. Solid understanding of database design and query strategy to provide suggestions for optimal performance.
  • Infrastructure - solid understanding of the operating system, networking, storage and other underlying components of the infrastructure as it relates to the RDBMS supported.
  • Maintenance - Works closely with application team to maintain systems with routine work and regular patching as outlined by the RDBMS vendor through major and minor upgrades as they are released.
  • Project Management - Complete DBA related tasks as they are associated with the application team and initiatives of the project.
  • Recovery - solid understanding of recovery strategy from backup and recovery to advanced business continuity and disaster recovery options for supported RDBMS. Clearly communicates available options to application teams with minimal supervision.
  • Scripting - solid understanding of OS based scripting, develops an understanding to run scripts successfully that automate and orchestrate DBA related tasks.
  • Security - Solid understanding of security and implementation of those security concepts, from permissions to encryption options.
  • Self-Development - Continual self-learning to master most all administrative tasks. Strong understanding of the architecture of the RDBMS platform and how various components can impact the system from availability to performance.
  • Troubleshooting - Assist in determining the cause of database problems and degraded performance related issues. Determines a solution uses sound judgment to implement the appropriate actions to correct.

Qualifications

  • Typically has a solid IT background either through education or practical experience.
  • Typically has a solid understanding of database concepts through course work and at least 1 year of practical operational DBA experience or at least 3 years of practical DBA experience.
  • Solid understanding of security principles.
  • Solid understanding of database environments supported.
  • Proficient with query language for RDBMS supported.
  • Highly driven to self-learn and understand DBA role and expectations of position.
  • Works independently on assignments and contributes to the team frequently.
  • Proficient in communications with customers, peers and management.

Preferred Skills:

  • Oracle background
  • SQL experience
  • Knowledge in building data models

Salary Range: $31.54 to $47.99
