Purpose:
Assist in the execution of research protocols and services.

The Freyberg lab is located in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, a vibrant community of researchers and students devoted to the exploration of the brain and its relationships to mental illness. The lab’s main interest is to better understand the role of dopamine in mental illnesses including schizophrenia. We use a combination of studies examining dopamine’s functions in the pancreas and metabolism as well as in the brain. The lab uses cutting-edge imaging and functional assays in both flies and mice to directly visualize dopamine signaling in the brain and pancreas to advance our understanding of dopamine function in cells and the whole organism.

 

The Research Associate will be maintaining a mouse colony (including breeding and maintenance), helping to maintain a fly colony, conducting pancreatic islet preparations, conducting fly brain dissections, assisting in tissue culture of cells.  Additionally, will assist in the staining and imaging of stained brain samples.

 

This position is grant funded.



Responsibilities:
  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Maintain accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in psychology or related field.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required. 
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.  
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
