Purpose:

Provide advanced level research and/or clinical and administrative support to the study.  Mentor, train, & assist with supervising junior research staff.


The Freyberg lab is located in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, a vibrant community of researchers and students devoted to the exploration of the brain and its relationships to mental illness. The lab’s main interest is to better understand the role of dopamine in mental illnesses including schizophrenia. We use a combination of studies examining dopamine’s functions in the pancreas and metabolism as well as in the brain. The lab uses cutting-edge imaging and functional assays in both flies and mice to directly visualize dopamine signaling in the brain and pancreas to advance our understanding of dopamine function in cells and the whole organism.


The Research Principal will be maintaining a mouse colony (including breeding and maintenance), helping to maintain a fly colony, conducting pancreatic islet preparations, conducting fly brain dissections, and assisting in tissue culture of cells.


This position is grant funded.



Responsibilities:
  • Mentor, train, and assist with supervising junior research staff as needed.
  • Provide advanced level research and/or clinical and administrative support for the research study.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required preferably in psychology, neuroscience, counseling, sociology, or related research field. 
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required. 
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology required.  
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
