UPMC Health Plan is seeking a Product Administration Specialist Associate for its downtown Pittsburgh location at the U.S. Steel Tower. This position will assist with the implementation of new products, create and maintain plan documents for those products, retain a working knowledge of specialized employer group scenarios, participate in various workgroup and process improvement initiatives, handle inquiries and requests from departments throughout the organization, and work as a cross-functional member of the Product Administration team.


  • Actively participate in any and all information and projects related to Healthcare Reform.
  • Answer and track all inquiries received through the Health Plan Benefit Request email box.
  • Assist with and support process improvement as a whole.
  • Follow up on all responsibilities in a timely manner or as set forth by established turnaround times. Communicate accordingly when timeframes are outside reasonable expectations.
  • Handle all incoming requests for new sales and renewals by creating plan documents and facilitating all relevant aspects of the process as determined by leadership.
  • Maintain full ownership of all plan documents created and maintained by the Product Administration team, including format, verbiage, necessary approvals, mailings, mapping to network drive/SharePoint/DRC, etc.
  • Participate positively in various workgroups by offering valuable input, taking action on relevant items, and coordinating between departments as requested by leadership.
  • Proactively report issues and/or trends, and offer solutions for process improvement.
  • Remain current on all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Retain a working knowledge of national accounts, grandfathering, PPACA, and other specialized employer group scenarios.
  • Serve as a mentor to new employees and participate in cross-training with peers, with the goal of maintaining a cross-functional team.
  • Submit weekly status report to leadership, outlining all work activity.
  • Understand, interpret and effectively articulate to all levels and departments, all aspects of the various Commercial products and plan designs.
  • Work with a variety of functional areas within the organization to assist in the creation and implementation of new products.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, health care, management, or a related field required.
  • Two years of experience in health care insurance and/or industry required.
  • Knowledge of Commercial product preferred.
  • Experience in product administration or development a plus, but not required.
  • Strong computer skills required, with proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word and Internet Explorer.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels and all departments.
  • Ability to create and maintain good, working relationships with key areas involved in the product administration process.
  • Positive, professional attitude and enthusiastic demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask and manage multiple projects, with minimal or no direction from leadership.

Salary Range: $22.60 to $39.11 / hour
