The Renal-Electrolyte Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC is seeking a Clinical Director. The Renal Electrolyte Division has a dynamic and collaborative group of clinicians, clinician-educators, physician scientists, scientists and trainees. 


The successful candidate is expected to be a leader who will oversee existing clinical operations and develop new clinical programs and initiatives for the Division, the Department of Medicine and UPMC.  In addition to exceptional clinical skills and acumen, the candidate should have strong collaborative skills and is expected to provide dynamic and visionary leadership in academic nephrology.  Preference will be given to individuals with administrative experience in an academic setting.


The Clinical Director will report to Division Chief, and work closely with the Fellowship Directors and other clinical leaders in the division, Department of Medicine and throughout UPMC. There are opportunities for academic growth and career development. Academic appointment is commensurate with professional experience. Compensation packages are competitive.

What would I be responsible for/expect in this position?

  • Teaching residents in both the inpatient and outpatient setting
  • Foster and develop an educational environment conducive to educating residents in the ACGME competencies
  • Maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component/submittal for publication
  • Facilitate and participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs and conference


What would qualify me for the faculty position?

  • ABIM board certified in Internal Medicine and in Nephrology
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Proven administrative abilities
  • Possess exceptional clinical knowledge and clinical acumen.
  • Commitment to teaching, inpatient and ambulatory patient care
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a leader of a diverse team providing effective communication, both verbal and written and have an interest in furthering the clinical, scholarly and academic missions of our division.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with administrative experience in an academic setting.
