UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for an Account Manager, Mid-Market, Eastern PA Region. The Account Manager, Mid-Market ensures retention and growth of existing business in the 51+ commercial group market. This position will service existing group business in the Susquehanna, Pinnacle, Tower Health and Northeast PA service area as assigned. In addition, he/she will provide assigned accounts and the associated producers with account support, education, and a high caliber of service.


  • Analyze utilization reports; work with Clinical Account Managers to prepare and present applicable reports in order to identify problem areas and search for solutions.
  • Coordinate with account management team, account service team, underwriters, and sales team to present an integrated product approach for all clients from the new sale group implementation through the renewal processes and service initiatives.
  • Develop strategic plans for book of business including the identification of growth opportunities.
  • Ensure book of business is updated and maintained within Salesforce & IKA, including competitive information.
  • Exhibit the ability to educate accounts and external resources in all aspects of UPMC Health Plan's products, sales tools, guidelines, and processes through the development and maintaining of credibility within the marketplace.
  • Meet or exceed individual minimum retention performance standards.
  • Oversee client renewal process including presentation of plan designs, rates, and open enrollment processes in order to achieve growth/retention objectives.
  • Participate in the development of Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures by supporting the management team as needed through reporting, projects, internal committees, etc.
  • Play an active role in delivering and reinforcing key communications and priorities.
  • Provide reports as required by Management weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Review renewal requests for assigned accounts for accuracy and appropriateness while developing a renewal strategy, then delivering the renewal to the clients/producers.
  • Work collaboratively with all internal departments to learn new things, support others, and take the lead, as appropriate.
  • Work to retain and increase revenue in assigned accounts while overseeing the account management process by providing continuous service for clients by addressing billing, claims, enrollment, regulatory, and benefit issues timely and accurately in conjunction with the service team.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience required.
  • Three years of successful healthcare sales and/or account management experience required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that will position team’s success.
  • Mentoring of internal and external resources.
  • Ability to handle high profile/large clients.
  • Ability to assume additional clients and/or special projects, in addition to own book of business.
  • Demonstrated success in selling and/or renewing Small and Mid-Market accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credibility in the marketplace.
  • Financial analysis experience with regards to Underwriting.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Onyx and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work with and take direction from Management.
  • Desire to continue upward progression within organization.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    PA Health and Accident License required within 90 days of hire.
  • Insurance Sales License
