UPMC is actively seeking a full time Associate Vice President, Data Visualization and Population Health Insight.  This role will be located in downtown Pittsburgh, Pa.

The AVP of Data Visualization and Population Health Insight will serve as a pivotal member of the leadership team responsible for driving the innovation and rapid development of new care management and team based care methodologies, value-based transformation, as well as related processes and needed technology support. The AVP of Data Visualization and Population Health Insight performs a critical role in the leadership and development of UPMCs digital consumer tool and Population Health Management data strategies. In this capacity, the executive will drive innovation of data presentation, maximize utility of data, and promote new knowledge generation based on the full range of data inclusive of payer, provider, social, and consumer generated. The AVP's influence will directly and indirectly connect all health care participants and support the provision of care at the highest quality and with maximum efficiency. In conjunction with the other members of the innovation and population health teams, will identify and evaluate opportunities for data and new knowledge to support engagement, care management activities by member/patients, payer staff, and providers across the continuum.  

 

 The AVP of Data Visualization and Population Health Insight will develop, hire, and manage a new data team and ensure that the team is open, creative, and responsive to customer needs while attendant to the broader vision of a smart technology that connects the care continuum. The incumbent will productively challenge current state assumptions, support rapid-cycle design and development methodologies, and will help identify critical external resources and partnerships that can accelerate progress toward UPMC's strategic objectives, and/or supplement resources in order to adapt to changing needs. The AVP will have the authority and accountability for envisioning, requesting, and prioritizing new technology functionality as well as implementation, standardization, and adherence with Health Plan and IDFS strategic objectives. You will work as part of a dynamic team that brings together expertise in many disciplines including clinical service, knowledge management, business development, customer innovation, and information technology, to meet the rapidly advancing needs of healthcare today.

Responsibilities:

  • Advance value-based transformation through evaluation and structured system learning from network, provider, care management, member/patient data Remain current with regard to industry best practices, trends, and incorporate learnings into tactics and strategies as appropriate
  • Build strong, productive working relationships across internal teams and UPMC Payer and Provider customers.
  • Generate new perspectives, frameworks or innovations and challenge the status quo.
  • Certify statistical and methodological rigor are applied and paired with appropriate input from clinical teams for all assets developed by team. 
  •  Implement audit processes to ensure overall quality control and consistency within and across UPMC analytics and intelligence departments
  • Maintain awareness of available data sets and proactively surface possibilities for new internal, vended, consumer data sources
  • Clearly and confidently articulate the value proposition of tools, assets and initiatives ensuring delineation of success metrics and predicted ROI
  • Serve as a key contributor to the data strategy as marketplace leader for PHM technology for the UPMC IDFS.
  • Support and promote the advancement of decision support, analytical and intelligent processing tools in partnership with clinical and product customers.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive data strategies for Population Health Management (PHM) tools that support workflow, decision support, and visualization.
  • Coordinate closely with PHM technology leadership as well as Innovation, Product Development, and IT teams.
  • Identify opportunities for testing and measurement and apply learning methodologies to new and existing processes and assets 
  • Work collaboratively in a multifunctional team with existing IDFS care management and clinical teams to produce algorithms and final software products in a timely and effective manner and ensure accuracy and performance standards are met
  • Manage, groom, and expand data team working in hands-on fashion 
  •  Actively engage customers to translate business goals into reproducible visualization, prediction, decision support assets

 

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of healthcare data and analytics experience
  • Graduate degree in computer science, statistics, or similar field
  • Five (5) years management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of statistics, predictive modeling, and US healthcare system a must
  • Demonstrated track record of converting big data into actionable outcomes
  • Experience structuring and building effective teams ensuring overall quality and production.
  • Demonstrated success in creating effective predictive healthcare models and deriving rapid-cycle learning and improvements from complex data sets
  • Fluency and creativity with BI and similar visualization tools and full understanding of the underlying data dependencies
  • Proven experience identifying new knowledge from complex data sets and surfacing new business/workflow/ opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic mining and visualization methodologies
  • Experience leveraging consumer-generated data 
  • Strong knowledge of workflow mechanics and comparative efficiency/outcome evaluations 
  • Demonstrated success at evaluating clinical and cost outcomes 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, illustrate, and facilitate data driven solutions to complex problems and articulate measurable benefits to internal customers and executive management audiences
  • Expertise in creating and building organizational support and developing and implementing new programs including the ability to manage multiple initiatives and projects varying in scope and complexity
  • A genuine passion for transforming the clinical health system and developing population health management software demonstrated through significant past projects 
  • Experience in software innovation
  • Superior communication and analytical abilities required
