UPMC's Magee Women's Hospital is actively seeking a Clinical Support Specialist III to work at its Womens Imaging South Hills location. This person will be responsible for preforming a full registration as needed, greeting patients, taking co pays, film maintenance, preparing charts for technologists, creating screening sessions for the radiologists to review, scanning, mail, scheduling and any other clerical admin duties.

This position is Flex/Full-Time and will have rotating shifts 6:30-3:00, 7:30-4:00, 8:30-5:00, 11:00-7:30.


  • Answer work area telephones and triage calls as appropriate.
  • Expeditiously compile documentation needed to process patient upon arrival. Prepare departmental reports, forms, film folders, and miscellaneous forms as required.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Interact directly with patients, family members, staff members and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain and retrieve patient records in accordance with hospital/departmental policies governing patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain inventory and orders supplies as required.
  • Maintain office equipment and inform appropriate personnel of service needs.
  • Obtain and input pertinent patient demographic and insurance data, as required, for patient registration and billing. Possess knowledge of pre-authorization requirements for imaging procedures.
  • Obtain information and schedules examination appointments. Utilize judgment in determining appropriate level of service based on clinical needs, clarify pre-authorization requirements, and furnish preparatory examination instructions and assistance to patients.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of specific department functions (i.e. Scheduling, mammography screening program, file maintenance, etc.)
  • Problem solve utilizing independent judgment.
  • Provide general clerical support and serves as a resource individual for imaging support personnel.
  • Retrieve or instruct patients to obtain prior images or medical records pertinent for review at the time of testing.
  • Utilize computer system to enter, retrieve, edit and print data as required.



  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Twelve months previous experience in the use of computers, patient record maintenance and/or reception is required.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role in the absence of immediate supervision.
  • In-depth working knowledge of Hospital and Radiology Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of third party healthcare coverage and billing requirements.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to effectively interact with patients, physicians, consumers and other healthcare professionals.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
