Description

Purpose:
Monitor and maintain the switchgear, transfer switches and emergency generators to assure uninterruptible or emergent power to the facility at all times. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain various pieces of equipment through the Preventive Maintenance and Work Request Systems. Provide maintenance service and new equipment installation to the dedicated areas of the facility, when applicable.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the interpretation of the National Electric Code as it relates to the operation of all building electrical systems, devices and equipment. This includes proposed system additions and revisions.  
  • Layout new electrical systems as directed. This includes the selection of wire, conduit and devices, which comply with all codes and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit necessary records and reports, such as daily, weekly and monthly generator test log.
  • Assure significant information regarding department activities and concerns follow the appropriate channel of communications.  
  • Display respect for the opinions of others.  
  • Accept constructive criticism. 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Attend all mandatory in-service programs, including monthly departmental meetings. Attend optional in-service and continuing education programs on a voluntary basis.
  • Communicate with other maintenance personnel, and as instructed, assist them in the performance of their duties. This would include such areas as refrigeration, carpentry and electrical.
  • Complete preventative maintenance work order forms and repair work order forms to provide all information as instructed so that accurate records of completed repair and maintenance, as well as materials used, are current and readily available.
  • Comply with the Department's current dress code policy.
  • Demonstrate dependability through good attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all shop equipment, so that parts can be fabricated and/or repaired.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean and orderly manner.
  • Make recommendations to Director about how methods and procedures can be improved.
  • Observe all sanitation and safety regulations as outlined in hospital policy or as good judgment dictates. Report to Director all unsafe or unusual acts or conditions observed within the hospital or support facilities.
  • Operate the electrical devices, equipment and systems throughout the facility. 
  • Make all necessary repairs and perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment in a safe manner. 
  • Maintain a current Registered Electrician's license from the City of Pittsburgh, as well as a current valid PA vehicle operator's license.
  • Frequently review departmental policies and procedures and maintain a working knowledge of same.  
  • Perform a wide variety of electrical system repairs, operational testing, and installation of new electrical apparatus as directed. This includes, but is not limited to repair or installation of wiring, conduit disconnects, breakers, relays, switches, receptacles, etc. 
  • Check all new ore paired electrical equipment entering the hospital to assure that it complies with all appropriate codes and is electrically safe to use. Document all findings and any corrective action taken. 
  • Make a daily inspection tour of all electrical systems to determine if they are functioning properly. This includes checking the emergency generators daily and performing monthly operating tests.
  • Perform duties as assigned by authorized personnel to meet emergency situations, or as dictated by hospital policy. This includes, but is not limited to, fire or bomb threat situations.
  • Perform duties that are not electrical in nature assigned by Director.
  • Render services or perform work in accordance with specified departmental productivity standards.
  • Request that parts and materials are purchased as part of the repair and maintenance of the facility, and use all materials in an efficient manner.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to meet customers' needs. Is willing to make extra efforts to meet customers with courtesy, respect and concern. Recognizes fellow employees as internal customers.
  • Work cooperatively and all hospital policy, regulations and standards.
  • Work holidays and shifts as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • High school degree OR GED equivalent required.
  • Two years experience in institutional maintenance preferred.
  • General knowledge of email, Word and other common software programs preferred. 
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Current Pennsylvania driver's license required. 
  • City of Pittsburgh Electrician license required.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Electrician
