Under the general direction of the VP/CEO, the Director will identify, plan and execute on-going marketing and communication programs and projects in support of UPMC and Magee-Womens Research Institute's (MWRI) mission and vision. Areas of responsibility include internal communications, clinical and strategic marketing, media/social media relations, Magee-Womens Foundation communications, MWRI marketing / communications, and graphic design. The Director will also be responsible for the organization's media relations response for on-going initiatives, news efforts, and crisis management.  You will also partner with UPMC communication, marketing, and media relations leadership.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a strategy, brand and reputation check-point for all advertising materials.
  • Collaborate in preparation of annual operating and capital budgets and monitors and reports on variances.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with UPMC corporate clinical marketing initiatives as appropriate and/or proactively identify synergistic opportunities for MWRI marketing services and UPMC corporate marketing opportunities.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, credible relationships with all appropriate regional, national and international media.
  • Develop methods to evaluate marketing communication projects based upon effectiveness and cost/benefit and documents results.
  • Independently manage the research, writing, design and production of any printed materials and MWRI websites, monitors project budgets, handles approvals and other client relations and takes responsibility for accuracy and effectiveness of information communicated.
  • Lead the development, implementation and execution of strategic marketing and communication plans.
  • Manage multi-faceted components of the marketing process, including supervision of internal staff, external marketing agencies or vendors and related staff associated with specific projects.
  • Oversee the execution of media and social media strategies.
  • Perform human resources management including performance and talent management, recruitment, on-boarding and employee development.
  • Serve as marketing communications consultant and advises leadership on marketing best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business, marketing, communication, English, journalism or related field required. 
  • Masters degree preferred. 
  • Seven years experience in communications, marketing or media relations required.
  • Must have knowledge of marketing, communications/public relations strategies, advanced research, writing, and editing skills, and strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
