The Psych Specialty Counselor will provide clinical treatment services to the targeted populations. This is an outpatient treatment program designed to service patients with a mental health diagnosis who meet dimensions for outpatient and/or partial hospitalization treatment criteria.


  • Clinical Assessments : Conducts assessments of new patients using the identified format for documentation and clinical decisions regarding treatment, interventions and referrals, as instructed. Assesses changing needs of patients per guidelines for outpatient and/or partial hospitalization programs, and incorporates these into treatment plan and treatment plan review.
  • Clinical Treatment : With supervision and oversight is able to integrate into the overall counseling functions at the program and implements, improves, and adapts concepts, models, and constructs of treatment for application in service delivery to patients Creates a treatment plan that includes an effective continuum of therapeutic, supportive and other services for the patients serviced by the program. Participates in regular treatment team meetings to discuss clinical cases, review and update patient treatment plans, monitor therapeutic progress and initiate recommendations for referral and continuing care Accepts assignments of patients with a variety and complexity of needs Provides individual and group therapy to patients in the program, as instruction Engages families in the assessment and treatment processes when indicated Provides education to patients on recovery
  • Documentation : Documents all assessments, treatment sessions, contacts, case management and other work done on behalf of patients according to guidelines Completes clinical documentation on the same day of service delivery Maintains daily records of clinical productivity in the program as instructed Provides required information about the patients according to confidentiality guidelines Provides clinical information to patient access representative personnel and insurance providers to ensure authorization for services.
  • Other Participates in the quality assurance and performance improvement activities of the program
  • Referrals and Coordination of Clinical Care : Discusses need for additional services with the clinical team to determine appropriateness of recommendations Refers patients to other levels of care when clinically indicated Refers patients to community based self-help programs for recovery as instructed Refers patients to other community social or human services as needed, and advocates on behalf of patients to receive necessary services as instructed
  • Supervision and Training : Reviews cases and/or groups periodically with the director and with other clinical personnel as indicated Reviews serious clinical problems and cases with director and informs director of significant changes in clinical condition of patients Completes annual training needs assessment per program guidelines Participates in providing staff in-service training to the treatment team, as directed



  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Education required. 
  • One (1) year of clinical experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of psychiatric evaluation and assessment process, as well as application of current version of the DSM required. 
  • May in the course of job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management - Crisis Management training required within 60 days of hire
  • Older Adult Protective Services Act
