Description

UPMC Northwest is currently seeking a Full-Time Quality Nurse at the Seneca, PA location. The shift requirement is 8-4. 

Provides meaningful data regarding consistencies in standards of care and assists hospital teams with data relating to quality improvement activities. Participates in quality oversight initiatives, and monitors patient safety initiatives to improve and enhance care delivery.

Responsibilities:
  • Collects, prepares, and presents accurate, timely data to display results of process improvements that allow for trending and easy to understand. 
  • Reviews data and analyzes outcomes for patterns and trends in order to communicate findings related to standards, evidenced based practices, and policies for the improvement of processes. 
  • Demonstrates a passion for developing others, enthusiastically and expertly precepts students, graduate nurses and new hires. 
  • Analyzes clinical and behavioral situations, identifying learning opportunities to improve patient care practices. 
  • Regularly seeks feedback on performance and applies continuous professional improvement.
  • Receives, analyzes and acts upon UPMCs quality dashboard by exploring structure and processes behind the measures. 
  • Presents the dashboard to key hospital and medical staff leaders; identifies and leads improvement efforts. 
  • Maintains a proficiency in the various public reporting systems such as CMS Hospital Compare, Leapfrog and PHC4. 
  • Serve as key contact for data submission and reporting, collaborating with UPMC system specialists to ensure timely and accurate data. 
  • Receives and approves preview reports prior to being posted on public websites. 
  • Provides explanations for methodology and outcomes. 
  • Receives, processes and responds to requests and correspondence from CMS
  • Quality Improvement Organization (Livanta) Participates as needed in monthly quality system meetings and focused improvement efforts
  • Reviews and extracts patient information from the medical record 
  • Participates in quality projects 
  • Aggregates/reports data based on project requirements Investigates and summarizes key issues based on quality case project
  • Understands and maintains knowledge of regulatory and/or standards by actively reviewing and updating process to reflect the requirements. 
  • Promotes change and innovation that enhances the quality of patient care and the departmental functions and efficiencies.

  • Utilizes appropriate computer systems to obtain data, enter data and develop reporting tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field required, either at time of hire/transfer, or must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. 
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.  
  • Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.  
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others. 
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. 
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Older Adult Protective Services Act
  • Registered Nurse
