Description

Our lab in the Department of Psychiatry studies the molecular mechanisms that underlie psychiatric disorders. We have a particular interest in the role of circadian rhythms and sleep in the pathophysiology and treatment of these disorders which include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, and drug addiction.

This individual will be involved in both human postmortem and mouse studies. The human studies will involve tissue and cell collection, and tissue processing for RNA sequencing. The mouse studies will involve mouse husbandry, breeding, genotyping, surgeries, viral placement validation, and behavioral assays.

This position is grant funded. 

Purpose:

Assist in the execution of research protocols and services.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Collect and analyze experimental data.
  • Maintain accurate documentation.
  • Mouse breeding, weaning, identification and genotyping. Behavioral studies with rodents.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment. General lab duties (autoclaving, dishwashing)
  • Participate in human brain tissue collection.
  • Perform database management.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments on human and mouse tissue samples.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required preferably in psychology or related field.
  • Neuroscience and molecular biology background preferred.
  • Experience with mouse handling preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required. 
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
