The Mental Health Specialty Clinician is responsible for the formalization and direction of the mental health state programs for agency use and for community presentation. Serves as a consultant/liaison for this specific patient population.



  • Performs duties and job responsibilities in a fashion which coincides with the service management philosophy of the organization towards patients, visitors, staff, peers, physicians and other departments within organization
  • Identifies, develops and participates in process improvement opportunities within the home health agency that will enhance the quality of the services we provide.

  • Attend compliance training and adhere to the organization standards of conduct, policies and procedures
  • Develop educational programs for presentation within the agency and community setting
  • Develop and reviews patient education material related to field of expertise
  • Evaluate, analyze and implement change to the organization's documentation system to improve outcomes and decrease costs per episode
  • Focus on customer service and continually strive to perform the duties of job in a manner that results in optimal patient satisfaction
  • Identify, develop and participate in process improvement opportunities within the home health agency that will enhance the quality of the services provided
  • Oversees clinical practice and provides education of Mental Health RNs and Medical Social Workers; consults with Clinicians and Clinical Coordinators regarding interviewing and hiring, completes supervisory visits and contributes to EPRs
  • Provide assistance with orientation, continuing education, performance and competency evaluation of personnel activities related to their full expertise
  • Serve as a preceptor for new mental health staff nurses
  • Serves as a role model and mentor of professional nursing practice by serving as a recognized leader in clinical expertise within the mental health specialty field to ensure competence and consistency within the provision of services
  • Advises and consults with family and other agency personnel, as appropriate for the mental health patients and case conferences with complicated patients within field of expertise.  Responsible for a minimum of 50% direct patient visits
  • Responsible for professional nursing practice for over 200 patient cases
  • Triages all mental health referrals
  • Serves as a liaison and consultant between referral sources, nurse liaisons and the agency to ensure continuity of quality care
  • Searches out research opportunities within specific area of expertise
  • Serves as a member on agency committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Masters Degree in area of defined specialty preferred
  • 5 years experience in health care required 2 years experience in mental health

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Act 33 Child Clearance
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Older Adult Protective Services Act
  • Registered Nurse
