Description

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Documentation Analyst in its Health Economics department, located in downtown Pittsburgh at the U.S. Steel Tower. Under the general direction of Health Economics leadership, the Technical Documentation Analyst will strategize, develop, implement, and maintain Health Economics electronic technical documentation and institutional knowledge as well as the infrastructure through which it is made accessible. 


The Technical Documentation Analyst will organize and index analytics-oriented programming and institutional knowledge in a searchable, library-like system. He/she will implement communication strategies to make users aware of new and updated documentation, programming, and information.  In addition, this role will work closely with Health Economics developers and analysts to ensure the information is accurate, user-friendly, and impactful to analytics operations. Furthermore, the position requires the ability to articulate key technical information to business users in a clear and appropriately concise manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Become increasingly familiar with basic terminology associated with health care data, including utilization, claims, care management, and technology.
  • Communicate updates of technical documentation to users both internal and external to Health Economics through announcements as well as summarized reports.
  • Conduct ongoing surveillance of all Health Economics information repositories to ensure that content is up-to-date.
  • Consistently demonstrate a strong customer orientation, maintaining and disseminating information vital to Health Economics resources and other Health Plan stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical support of the Health Economics wiki with UPMC IT resources.
  • Create and modify detailed information within Health Economics technical documentation in coordination with developers, analysts, and data scientists.
  • Establish standard templates for technical documentation related to Health Economics data extraction processes, predictive models, and various other analysis projects.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement wiki software to support a searchable repository for Health Economics institutional knowledge.
  • Health Economics is a fluid, dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful employee is comfortable with ambiguity in priorities and is able to maintain professionalism and a team-player attitude in the face of analytical challenges of moderate-to-high complexity.
  • Manage the organization and contents of the Health Economics SharePoint site. Manage the search keywords, loading, and permissions associated with various document libraries including but not limited to UPMC Health Plan's Electronic Filing Cabinet.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in business, economics, information systems, health care management, public health, technical writing, communications, or a similar field.
  • Prior Work Experience: Minimum of two-to-three years of work experience in an analysis, information systems, technical writing, or communications job function; three years are preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a particularly relevant business domain (ex: health care) may reduce time-in-position requirements.
  • Experience implementing or managing wiki software is highly preferred.
  • Experience creating and managing search keywords and taxonomies is highly preferred.
  • Experience with any of the following are also desirable: Technical writing, document control software, library sciences.
  • Technology Skills: Basic proficiency or understanding of any of the following programming languages is highly desirable: SQL, SAS, or R.
  • Basic understanding of relational databases is preferred. Intermediate-level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Data visualization experience using software packages such as Tableau is a plus.
  • Experience with publishing or graphic design software is a plus. Examples include Adobe InDesign or Illustrator.
  • Communications Skills: Ability to interface with senior leadership. Proven written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to translate scientific/medical information to a lay person's understanding.
  • Must possess strong organizational, writing/presentation/communication, analytical and problem solving skills. Meticulous attention to detail.
