Description

Our Corporate Legal department is searching for an Assistant Counsel to focus on Real Estate Law.  In this role, you would have the opportunity to operate independently while having support from an overall larger team.  If you have a legal background and exposure to commercial real estate, this could be the opportunity for you!


Responsibilities:

 

  • Apply general legal knowledge in the following areas, among others: real estate and construction, commercial and corporate law, and apply specialized legal knowledge in one or more of such areas.
  • Provide guidance with respect to contractual arrangements and prepare contractual and other legal documentation.
  • Assist senior UPMC attorneys and/or outside counsel in either highly complex litigation or highly complex business transactions.
  • Provide legal counsel and legal services to UPMC corporate and business units in moderately complex business arrangements; Represent UPMC business units in legal proceeding of moderate complexity or; Monitor outside counsel with respect to moderately complex business arrangements or litigation.
  • Perform special project assignments for the Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer.
  • Provide counsel to managers and staff throughout UPMC and address and resolve legal issues as they arise on a daily basis, such as in the areas of regulatory and patient care law. Conduct legal research and perform legal analysis.
  • Provide guidance with respect to contractual arrangements and prepare contractual and other legal documentation.
  • Review and recommend changes to corporate policy to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Real estate law experience, including commercial leasing experience, is strongly preferred.
  • Construction law and environmental law experience is preferred.
  • Procurement and supply chain contracting experience is preferred.
  • Health care law experience is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate strong legal analytical skills, communication skills, solid legal writing skills and problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to independently handle unique, sensitive and complex legal matters, on time sensitive basis, with limited direct supervision.

 

 


Qualifications

  • J.D. Degree required.
  • Minimum five years experience as a practicing attorney, including significant experience in health law or another relevant specialty, such as employment law or litigation.
  • Pennsylvania license or obtain such license within six (6) months of date-of-hire required


     
    Licensure Certifications, and Clearances:
    • Pennsylvania Attorney License

Salary Range: $44.91 to $76.28
