UPMC Chautauqua at WCA is currently hiring a Casual Administrator on Duty.


The Administrator on Duty (AOD) provides leadership and accountability for overall management and quality of patient care 24/7/365. They coordinate and expedite patient throughput to the most appropriate available bed based on clinical criteria and patient placement guidelines as well as participate in leadership ad deployment of Resource Pool staff. In collaboration with the Executive Vice President, the AOD makes the determination to activate WCA Medical Center Disaster Plan and ensures safe patient care in the absence of managers during designated hours of operation.

  • Acts as liaison to outside agencies and media. Demonstrates WCA's commitment to Service 
  • Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
  • Assesses, evaluates and provides direction to professional and non-professional staff in all departments regarding situations requiring immediate intervention. 
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and problem solving skills. Collaborates with physicians, departmental managers, and UPMC WCA leaders to assure the highest standard of patient care in accordance with WCA's mission. 
  • Collaborates with the Executive Vice President on call to make the determination to activate the WCA disaster plan and acts as the Disaster Coordinator until administrative support responds. 
  • Evaluates standards of care and standards of practice throughout WCA Medical Center for professional nurses providing care. Interprets and ensures WCA policies and procedures assuring quality patient care meets departmental, professional and regulatory agency standards. Manages human resources necessary to provide patient care through supervising, mentoring, evaluating, counseling and recommending the termination for non-performing staff.
  • Assures the correct placement of patients in accordance with clinical standards and admission guidelines. Establishes and continually evaluates the ethical and legal responsibilities associated with all activities of patient care. Assumes responsibility and accountability for reallocation of staff to provide safe patient care and optimal fiscal management.
  • Coaches, mentors, and assesses competencies of all staff to enhance and support critical thinking skills. Maintains clinical skills to be able to function as a resource to hospital staff. Responds to RRT, Blue Teams, Trauma alerts and other emergencies on off shifts, weekends and holidays.


-Bachelors Degree in Nursing. 
-Five years of professional nursing practice, at least two of which were preferably in a management position. 
-Needs knowledge of WCAs organizational infrastructure.  
-Demonstrated competence in, but not limited to, the following skills: communications, coordination, problem solving/critical thinking, hospitality/public relations, team facilitation/collaboration, conflict resolution, flexibility and creativity. Must have basic computer skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Registered Nurse

Salary Range: $26.19 to $43.13 / hour
