Description

Purpose:
The Manager of Analytics and Implementation is responsible for leading projects/initiatives related to business process development and improvement and business process infrastructure. This individual is responsible for strategic decision-making, policy development, and policy implementation for the business unit. The Optimization Consultant will work collaboratively with the Division Chiefs, other physicians, clinicians, and manage to develop and implement strategic plans focused on the growth and development of clinical and academic programs. Accountable for the operation's performance (service, quality, and financial) of the business unit. Ensure compliance with all state, federal and regulatory agencies. Serve as the coordinator in utilization and report generation from the EPIC system.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a change agent to lead, facilitate, and manage change across the organization. Serve as a consultant in process optimization to business leaders
  • Act as the key liaison between department Administration, Perioperative Surgical
  • Assist managers and division chiefs to develop and implement action plans to improve service levels and exceed customer expectations.
  • Conduct analysis and propose process improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver process assessments to include process mapping, requirements identification, risk and feasibility analysis, baseline metrics and benchmarking studies.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans to maximize reimbursement and disseminate regulatory information pertaining to changes in reimbursement and/or coding while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Drive projects focused on business needs, including customer satisfaction, process efficiency, and productivity. Provide training and mentoring to all levels of the organization.
  • Interface with Clinical I/T experts in the develop of smart reporting tools from the EMR and clinical databases and create necessary reports in EPIC, specifically those to evaluate physician productivity. Conduct quarterly physician productivity meetings.
  • Investigate areas for improvement in processes/service delivery.
  • Lead multi-functional, dedicated project teams in executing process improvement initiatives, including leading rapid improvement sessions using Lean techniques such as process mapping to remove waste from the processes, reduce cost and provide additional value to end users.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry best practices and trends in technology and process and identify ways to apply to current business practices.
  • Partner with Finance to develop operating and capital budgets for BU to include, but not limited to, Physician Services, School of Medicine and hospital. Assist with the supervision and oversight of the BU budgets (i.e., clinical practice plan, hospital, School of Medicine, and research). Assist the Administrator by maintaining financial records/reports used to monitor and analyze performance against goals
  • Prepare and present project status reports to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Responsible for delivery of products/services within budget and targeted delivery date. Provide direction and support to the BU management staff for clinical purchasing (pharmaceuticals, laboratory supplies, med-surgical supplies, equipment, etc.) Work with Facilities and Materials Management and appropriate vendors to ensure that practices are provided with cost-effective and high quality products and supplies. May act as liaison to outside vendors.
  • Schedule and lead project status meetings with project stakeholders to assess progress and plan activities.
  • Services Administration, UPMC Finance, and UPMC Revenue Cycle in the development and maintenance of key analytical resources and intelligence support tools to drive optimal operational outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field is required 
  • Advanced degree (MBA) preferred  
  • 5 years of Healthcare, Process Improvement or Revenue Cycle experience required  
  • Must possess knowledge of industry standard project management tools, methods and reports for resource planning and other project management functions 
  • Must possess very strong quantitative and financial acumen 
  • Logistics and clinical scheduling expertise is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of surgical services operational and business process flow is preferred.
