UPMC Health Plan is growing its Market Intelligence team and is seeking a Senior Marketing Analyst to provide leadership and support to the primary research team. This position is located in downtown Pittsburgh at the U.S. Steel Tower, and leverages strong data collection and analytical skills to synthesize market research into actionable deliverables that will help UPMC Health Plan to pursue its organizational objectives.  Aggregate, analyze and synthesize market data into communicable deliverables, provide value-add commentaries that will help guide strategic business decisions.


  • Coordinate all aspects of primary research projects from initial evaluation of research objective, recommendation of methodology, coordination of field work / data collection analysis and reporting.
  • Extensive experience developing survey questionnaires, focus group screeners and moderator guides.
  • Experience using online research platforms, specifically Qualtrics, to develop online surveys and reports.
  • Ability to perform more complex data analysis such as multivariate statistical analysis (correlation, regression, factor, decision trees).
  • Proven track record of taking complex research findings and creating a story that colleagues without a research background can understand.
  • Advanced level user of SPSS or equivalent data analysis tool.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art data visualization tools to disseminate analysis including Tableau and Power BI.
  • Assist in developing new, and maintaining existing market automation and intelligence platform(s) and models to drive better analytics and reporting capabilities.
  • Develop baseline metrics with which to compare relative success of marketing campaigns.
  • Developing subject matter expert (SME) level understandings of campaign data sources, processes, systems, data standards, and data integration methods used to support the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) functions across various marketing systems and platforms.
  • Identify, evaluate and share views on competitive marketing campaign tactics.
  • Leverages and integrates disparate data sources including external third party and internal data (member/employer/provider) sources.
  • Perform additional ad hoc analysis as needed and other related duties as assigned.
  • Performs analyses and/or makes recommendations concerning marketing, engagement and customer experience strategy and tactics.
  • Presents findings and recommendations to executives and other key internal stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of all facets of the analytics process (strategy, tracking, reporting, analysis, actionable recommendations).
  • Support colleagues within Marketing and other functional areas of the business to rapidly apply your subject matter expertise to helping us expedite elimination of manual ETL efforts wherever possible in favor of direct integrations and complete automation between systems so that we may achieve always on marketing.
  • Support marketing and engagement campaign related activities from inception to implementation including defining targeting efforts and calculating ROI.
  • Use advanced analytical techniques to identify key drivers of campaign success and use this knowledge to optimize segmentation and channel utilization.
  • Work closely with Marketing Campaign Managers/Strategy Managers and other data experts across the enterprise (including IT) to assist in campaign execution to meet business goals. 


  • BS/BA degree in Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent required.
  • Four (4) years of experience in marketing, preferably analysis, market research, or related experience required.
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred, but those with relevant experience in other industries may be considered.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize data into actionable information.
  • Superior computer skills with expert knowledge in Excel and SQL, experience with base SAS a plus Ability to use statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS or SAS) a plus.
  • Experience with marketing automation tools and data integration a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must. Experience working with minimal direction, with a keen ability to leverage business-sense to guide decision making.
