Description
UPMC is dedicated to providing each patient with the right care, in the right way, at the right time, every time. Patient Care Technicians are essential partners in that mission, enhancing the patient experience at UPMC with positivity and integrity. Nursing support staff give personal care to patients with an emphasis on dignity and respect, striving to make each patient feel as comfortable as possible during their hospital stay.
Patient Care Technicians also provide invaluable aid to nurses and doctors on the floor by completing important skilled tasks such as checking vital signs and glucose levels, performing EKGs and blood draws, and much more.
Magee-Womens Hospital is hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to support our Med/Surg Unit (5300). 5300 is a 28-bed medical-surgical unit that cares for a wide variety of medical and post-op patients and serves as Magee’s stepdown unit. We see an extremely diverse patient population, with ages ranging from 15-100+. Many patients receive insulin and/or Cardezim drips, and all of the unit’s 28 beds are housed in private rooms, each hardwired for telemetry monitoring. Our post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries; we also frequently receive overflow surgical patients who do not have beds available on their specialty unit. Due to the wide variety of services we offer and medical conditions we see, 5300 is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience. Patient care staff in Med/Surg work on a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage. Availability for all shifts, including some weekends and holidays, is expected.
Compassionate individuals of all experience levels are encouraged to apply. Experienced applicants may be hired at the Patient Care Technician level; those without prior inpatient hospital experience will be required to complete a 7-day training course. (Note: the training course is held over 7 consecutive weekdays during daylight hours.)
