Under the direction of the VP Chief Privacy Officer and VP Chief Audit & Compliance Officer and Director, the Corporate Compliance & Privacy Analyst Assoc. is primarily responsible for supporting the organizational oversight activities of the UPMC Office of Patient and Consumer Privacy, while also supporting the overall mission and goals of the Corporate Office of Ethics and Compliance. The incumbent shall be responsible for tracking, trending and monitoring, as well as project activities within the office. The incumbent will be expected to acquire a substantive understanding of applicable privacy regulatory requirements (e.g. HIPAA, ARRA, HiTECH, and Omnibus HIPAA Rule) in an expedited manner. Assistance and support shall include analysis of data and information sets for company-wide initiatives, research of state and federal regulations and industry guidance for dissemination across the UPMC organization, monitoring and compiling reports of compliance activity and behavior throughout the organization as identified through compliance reporting mechanisms, and supporting complex and sensitive internal investigations and audits in furtherance of the Corporate Compliance Plan and UPMC's various underlying compliance and privacy programs. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the implementation and success of ongoing departmental goals.


  • Assist in developing, maintaining and exhibiting departmental professionalism and reputation Effectively communicate and support the values of UPMC to employees at all levels of the organization
  • Assist in meeting various regulatory filing requirements to government agencies, including those imposed under the Deficit Reduction Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Support the intake and administration of Business Associate Agreement contracts
  • Assist leadership on special projects, as assigned Support to ongoing Compliance monitoring activity, including conducting tracking and trending efforts to identify risk patterns and create appropriate remediation plans
  • Contribute to ongoing departmental goals Help to enhance and maintain internal and external websites Acquire an understanding of health care and industry terminology and risk
  • Research state and federal regulatory and industry guidance, as well as internal data, for purposes of analysis and creation of organizational guidance
  • Review and enforce adherence to investigatory workflows for compliance purposes Support to the establishment and maintenance of departmental and system-wide policies, procedures and tools to support compliance activities
  • Secondary support responsibilities may include: Assist with monitoring and reporting of Conflict Management Plans Facilitate and help analyze Conflict of Interest reporting Monitor and report on Compliance Helpline (hotline), Exit Interviews, Conflict of Interest related matters and other miscellaneous compliance projects, as assigned Perform chart reviews and associated research to assess compliance with coding and billing regulations
  • Serve as primary support for the UPMC Office of Patient and Consumer Privacy
  • Support internal investigations Support responses relating to external government audits and investigations for all underlying UPMC entities
  • Support issuance of corporate guidance and support to entity Privacy and Compliance Officers throughout the organization
  • Support the activity and have a substantive knowledge of the concepts associated with various committees with which leadership is involved, including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Health Information Management, System Policy, Information Privacy and Security, 231 Compliance, and Data Governance
  • Support the planning, developing and presenting educational and training materials related to specific compliance topics, including annual mandatory training modules, to be utilized across the UPMC organization


  • Bachelors Degree and minimum of 1 year of health care, compliance or other related work experience is required.
  • An Advanced Degree or Professional Certification in Compliance, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Law or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in an academic medical center setting is preferred.
  • Data Analytics experience is preferred Proficiency with associated technology solutions such as Microsoft Excel and Access is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to identify, interpret and summarize relevant policy and regulation in a clear and timely manner is essential.
  • Technical acumen and the ability to learn and identify best practices relating to new technology solutions are preferred.
  • Experience researching and interpreting regulation and performing internal investigations is preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must.
  • Must have ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position, as is the ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem solving abilities are a must.

Salary Range: $18.24 to $30.32 / hour
