This position is in Oakdale, PA located at 1001 Oakdale Road.


Perform duties related to the retrieval, delivery and re-filing of medical records needed for billing purposes which are of heavy volume. File medical reports and correspondence within the record. Process all requests for copies of the medical record in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Account for and files miscellaneous reports as needed.
  • Account for the return of medical records from authorized users and verifies correct chart order before re-filing.
  • Adhere to the UPMC Health System and UPMC HomeCare Standards of Conduct.
  • Attend compliance training as defined in the compliance training policy.
  • File loose medical records, correspondence, etc. appropriately within the medical record.
  • File medical records into permanent, secondary, and off-site storage locations, as indicated.
  • Maintain the neatness and accuracy of the permanent, secondary, and off-site storage locations.
  • Prepare new record folders/contents as necessary.
  • Process all requests for photocopies of medical records and other items, as received from the billing staff and Supervisor. Ensure proper written patient authorization is received for each request and is filed with the medical record.
  • Receive correspondence daily and distributes to the appropriate Account Representative.
  • Refrain from disclosing or revealing confidential information to any person, except as specifically necessary for the staff member to perform his or her job duties. Refrain from accessing patient or coworker records (either electronic or files) except as specifically necessary for the staff member to perform his or her job duties.
  • Retrieve medical records from permanent off-site storage locations for the billing office personnel.


  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Adept with the alphabet and numerals. 
  • Good organization and communication skills. 
  • Typing skills preferred. 
  • Ability to ambulate and perform some lifting functions (up to 30 lbs.), bending and reaching.
  • Medical background is highly preferred 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
