Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking an Emergency Department Intake Registration Clerk! This individual provides for answering and transferring telephone calls, greeting and registering patients into the computer system under the direction of the DEC Clinical Coordinator and DEC Clinical Administrator.

  • Answer telephones, direct calls provides information when appropriate.
  • Anticipate responds to meet customer's needs.
  • Complete assigned projects, reports and statistics in a timely manner.
  • Cover Front Desk as needed.
  • Greet each person entering the DEC, identify self and role. Explain DEC process.
  • Maintain competency requirements.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned.
  • Participate with unit management in identifying needs or issues affecting the internal functioning of the DEC and assume a proactive position with problem solving.
  • Present information to the registration clerk.
  • Provide for Xeroxing, faxing, filing and any transcription of DEC evaluations when applicable.
  • Provide for competing all data entry into Abacus and other data systems.
  • Provide for obtaining specific demographic information and signatures from the patient, family members or responsible party.
  • Report any situation that may impact safety of patients, visitors and staff immediately.
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situation as a team member.
  • Serve as liaison between customer and departmental staff.



  • Completion of High School graduation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Incumbent should be well versed in data entry, operating a PC and able to use Microsoft Office.
  • One year experience in direct patient care or customer service. 
  • Able to work under conditions of potentially high stress and emergency situations. 
  • Able to use multi-line phone set. 
  • Able to function independently with minimal supervision.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter

  • Act 31 Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management

Salary Range: $13.71 to $21.49 / hour
