The Disabilities Resource Center (DRC) was established to ensure that health care is accessible to all individuals with disabilities at UPMC. The Disabilities Resource Coordinator will provide support to the department activities which have a strong focus on education and training to varying audiences, facility accessibility, community engagement and policy advocacy.


  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment.
  • Coordinate and manage Disabilities Resource Center programs as directed.
  • Create and support partnerships between the DRC and clinical and community-based organizations and increase awareness of the organization through outreach activities. Activities may include representing the DRC at health fairs and supporting the promotion of the resources and programs of the department as well as informational presentations to different groups including consumers, researchers, educators, advocacy groups, service and health care providers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs in disability awareness, accessibility to health care, and ADA compliance topics, services and resources to the staff of UPMC as well as external organizations and community members.
  • Develops and sends correspondence on behalf of department and department head (i.e., draft and send meeting minutes, draft and send meeting events)
  • Enter data accurately and update the referral and resource database including referral transactions, physician, consumer, service, literature, mailing list, survey, research activity, class information and resolution of issues involving access to health care for people with disabilities.
  • Provide administrative office support to the department including purchase orders for office supplies, payment for vendor contracts, ordering marketing materials,
  • Provide referral services to the Disabilities Resource Center inquiries received via phone as well as electronically, fax, US Mail. Requests for information are to be responded to within a timely basis. Assess information and referral needs, identify areas of clinical risk and concern, provide appropriate referrals and linkages to services and programs, provide relevant education to patients, staff, family members and community members.
  • Provide support to the workgroups and champions including conducting research on various topic areas, supporting group meetings, creating summary reports and evaluation and supporting the execution of initiatives, maintaining workgroup affiliation lists.
  • Some travel required.



  • Bachelors degree in business administration, social work, nursing or related field required.
  • One to two years of related work experience in a health/mental health care setting in services for older adults and or people with disabilities. 
  • Strong working knowledge of medical/health/mental health care terminology as well as disability services available within the UPMC System and the community.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. 
  • One to two years of related work experience in developing and implementing educational programs strongly preferred. 
  • Ability to lead groups in classroom and lecture settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, applications for tablet technology and web management software. 
  • Ability to perform advanced functions in word processing, Power Point, electronic mail/calendar, spreadsheet, presentation. 
  • Database software management (building analyzing and organizing data).
  • Strong office management skills including meeting, scheduling and management. 
  • Advanced knowledge of business processes and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial principles and functions.
  • Reliable transportation.

    Salary Range: $18.24 to $30.32 / hour
