Description

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Product Development Specialist located in downtown Pittsburgh at the U.S. Steel Tower. The Senior Product Development Specialist will assist with the implementation of new products, maintain documents for those products, lead various initiatives throughout the organization, including process improvement, internal and external audits, training, etc. The Senior Product Development Specialist will handle inquiries and requests from other departments, ensure our products and materials remain in compliance, proactively resolve issues, act as a role model for and provide leadership to their peers, and work as a cross-functional member of the Product Development Maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a role model and provide leadership to other members of the team by offering guidance, training, support, and proactively taking the lead on all of the above as indicated.
  • Actively participate in any and all information and projects related to Healthcare Reform, and maintain an up-to-date, expert knowledge of this at all times. Take action to ensure we remain in compliance.
  • Answer, track and oversee all inquiries received through the Health Plan Benefit Request email box, ensuring responses are clear, items are tracked and turnaround time is met (1 business day) by the team as a whole.
  • Drive and positively support process improvement as a whole.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with the PID (Pennsylvania Insurance Dept.) for the purpose of compliance, filing of products and materials, audits, etc. Lead audits on behalf of the Product Development Department as assigned.
  • Follow up on all responsibilities in a timely manner, or as set forth by established turnaround times. Communicate accordingly when timeframes are outside reasonable expectations.
  • Handle all incoming requests for new sales and renewals by creating plan documents and facilitating all relevant aspects of the process as determined by leadership.
  • Maintain full ownership of all plan documents created and maintained by the Product Development Maintenance department, including format, verbiage, necessary approvals, mailings, mapping to network drive/SharePoint/DRC, etc. Ensure precise organization of these files at all times.
  • Organize and drive various workgroups and committees with representation throughout the organization. Encourage positive participation from all.
  • Proactively report issues and/or trends, and offer solutions for process improvement. Initiate the necessary actions or processes in order to resolve.
  • Remain current on all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Submit weekly status report to management, outlining all work activity.
  • Supervise, direct and lead projects and initiatives as requested by leadership.
  • Understand, interpret and effectively articulate to all levels and departments, all aspects of the various Commercial products and plan designs.
  • Work with a variety of functional areas within the organization to assist in the creation and implementation of new products.


     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, health care, management, or a related field required. Masters degree preferred.
  • Four (4) years experience in health care insurance and/or industry required. Minimum of 2 years experience in product development.
  • Expert knowledge of Commercial products required. Excellent computer skills required, with proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer and Visio.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to resolve issues independently and proactively.
  • Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate clearly, professionally and positively with all levels and all departments.
  • Good, working relationships established throughout the organization. Positive, professional attitude, enthusiastic demeanor, and leadership mentality.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask and manage multiple projects, with minimal or no direction from leadership.

Salary Range: $24.27 to $41.99 / hour
