University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a full-time Temporary Medical Office Professional to support the Department of Urology at the UPMC Mercy Professional Building in Downtown Pittsburgh!


The Temporary Medical Office Professional's duties will include, but are not limited to, welcoming patients, assisting patients with check-in kiosks, helping patients with paperwork (copays, financial information, etc.), collecting payments, scheduling appointments, updating patients' demographics and insurance information, and promoting an overall culture of service excellence.


The ideal candidate will have medical office and/or medical program training, and be familiar with medical terminology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is also preferred. A working knowledge of EPIC is a plus!


  • Greets and assists visitors, physicians, and other staff members.
  • Maintains confidentiality and follows all HIPAA and departmental guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate communication including, but not limited to, promptly answering telephones, activating the paging system, facilitating timely faxing, and distributing patient and unit mail.
  • Maintains waiting room and office supplies.
  • May room patients and prepare charts/medical records for review.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Schedules appointments, patient registration, and places follow-up calls to physicians and/or patients.
  • Verifies insurance for accuracy and completeness, and gets appropriate forms completed and signed by patients.
  • Verifies necessary information and records in the electronic medical record and computerized scheduling system.



  • High School education or GED preferred. 
  • Completion of technical, trade, or any other medical educational training program and/or six-months of medical office experience is preferred. 
  • Previous experience with EPIC and/or EpiCare. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite products, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel. 
  • General knowledge and experience with office equipment, such as copiers, multi-line phone systems, fax machines, and paging systems. 
  • Typing skills and working knowledge of word processing, electronic mail/calendar, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software. 
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance or Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
