Description

The Penn Hills Endoscopy Center in Shadyside is looking for a Temporary Patient Services Representative to join their team for three months! The shift for this position will be 6:00 am - 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. This position is in an ambulatory setting. 

A Patient Services Representative is responsible for welcoming patients upon arrival, promoting the usage of new and emerging consumer-friendly technologies, educating patients on their copayments and financial obligations and collecting payments when applicable, scheduling subsequent appointments within the continuum of care, connecting patients to financial advocacy resources when appropriate, updating patient’s demographics and insurance coverage information, and promoting an overall culture of service excellence. We are seeking candidates with a strong customer service background and a desire to be empowered to ensure a positive experience during a patient's visit to UPMC.

Responsibilities:
  • Greets and assists visitors, physicians and other staff members
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPAA and departmental guidelines
  • Maintains accurate communication including, but not limited to, promptly answering telephones, activating the paging system, facilitating timely faxing, and distributing patient and unit mail
  • Maintains waiting room and office supplies.
  • May room patients and prepare charts/medical records for review
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Schedule appointments, patient registration and place follow-up calls to physicians and/or patients
  • Verifies insurance for accuracy and completeness and gets appropriate forms completed and signed by patients.
  • Verify necessary information and records in the electronic medical record and computerized scheduling system.

Qualifications

  • HS education or GED preferred 
  • Completion of technical, trade or any other medical educational training program and/or six-months of medical office experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience with EPIC and/or EpiCare
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite products such as Word, Outlook and Excel
  • General knowledge and experience with office equipment such as copiers, multi-line phone systems, fax machines and paging systems
  • Typing skills and working knowledge of word processing, electronic mail/calendar, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance or Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
