UPMC has an exciting opportunity for a Project Analyst at its downtown Pittsburgh location at the U.S. Steel Tower. The UPMC Center for High-Value Health Care is a non-profit research organization, housed within the UPMC Insurance Services Division, which focuses on innovations including optimizing clinical programs and payment models across the UPMC integrated health care delivery and financing system and building an extramural portfolio of research that holds promise for achieving the triple aim of improved health outcomes, reduced cost, and enhanced patient experience.


The Project Analyst will be responsible for supporting the execution of a large Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) study focusing on two clinical interventions for adults with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and behavioral health conditions. The Project Analyst will be responsible for providing operational and research support for the PCORI project including participant enrollment and retention, working with the Program Administrator on the preparation of research protocols, planning meetings, developing and overseeing data collection and data entry processes, and initiating participant payments through the Vincent system. Knowledge and understanding of sound data collection practices, clinical environments, research design, and ensuring timely completion of data collection is necessary. This position may require some travel.



• Communicate with Center team and others regarding assigned projects.
• Advise supervisors and other team members of pending due dates.
• Identify and help resolve potential issues and/or barriers critical to the success of a project.
• Generate necessary project documentation, including meeting minutes, project deliverables, etc.
• Maintain project documents within approved archival systems.
• Handle project administrative duties including scheduling requirements, SharePoint requirements, etc.
• Assist in the development of business cases, work plans, communications, etc.

Position Specific Responsibilities:
  • Ensures the successful recruitment and retention of study participants.
  • Works with participants, as needed, to complete study measures across data collection time points.
  • Works with the study and Center team to deliver on all milestones and deliverables outlined in the PCORI contract.
  • Plans study meetings and provides updates on study activities as needed.
  • Works with a variety of stakeholders to ensure their thoughts and feedback are considered for all study-related activities.
  • Conducts literature reviews and prepares summaries of relevant topics assigned by Center team.
  • Oversees successful fulfillment of participant payments.
  • Provides ongoing technical assistance to study participants in our technology-focused intervention arm.
  • Assists in the development of presentations and manuscripts.



  • B.A. degree and 2 years experience preferred.
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including MS Office Suite.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Very well-organized and deadline conscious.
  • Project Management knowledge and future potential to manage multiple projects required.

Salary Range: $22.60 to $39.11 / hour
