Description
Purpose:Install, maintain and repair gas, air, water, vacuum, medical gas, oxygen, fire suppression systems and sewer systems in the hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Estimate costs of installations and repair work, including requisition of material, as needed.
- Fit valves, couplings and other plumbing devices by screwing, bolting or soldering and seal connections with joint compounds, gaskets or caulking by using appropriate tools.
- Inspect systems for pressure loss and leaks.
- Install, repair and maintain various types of pipe assemblies, plumbing fixtures and piping systems from blueprints and sketches, including but not limited to chilled water, heating hot water and medical gas.
- Investigate and perform system outages.
- Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop areas.
- Mark, cut and bend pipe to meet specifications by using hacksaw, pipe cutter or cutting machine.
- Perform all work following infection control procedures.
- Prepare pipe for installation such as cutting, threading, removing burrs, grooving and bending.
- Record work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of 4-5 year apprenticeship, which includes blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, electrical wiring and plumbing and minimum of three years of work experience.
- Knowledge of State and Local plumbing codes and ordinances is required.
- May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 33 Child Clearance (must be provided within 30 days of hire)
- Act 73 FBI Clearance (must be provided within 30 days of hire)
- Driver's License
- Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber License
