Purpose:


In collaboration with the UPMC Stroke Institute medical Director, provides clinical and administrative oversight to the stroke and Neuro Endovascular services across all UPMC hospitals.

Responsibilities:


• Maintain Comprehensive Stroke Center certification at UPMC PUH
• Involved in planning fundraising campaigns with representatives from Medical and Health Sciences Foundation, stroke institute leadership, and department leadership
• Lead a monthly teleconference with all UPMC system stroke coordinators and data abstractors to keep all up to date on requirements, discuss challenges, etc.
• Oversee 3 complex data bases for maintenance and reporting for CSC metrics, thrombolytic database (in existence since 1997) and telemedicine database.
• Oversee 5 clinical research coordinators who execute approx. 20 clinical research trials and/or registries for both ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke patients.
• Oversee daily clinical care provided at 3 UPMC Campuses
• Oversee daily clinical care provided at UPMC Mercy outpatient clinic
• Oversee extensive data collection requirements that include both Primary and Comprehensive metrics that cross service lines with Neurosurgery, ED and Vascular Surgery.
• Oversee telestroke network that includes the following - both telestroke and teleneurology contractual relationships with sites. Includes maintenance of relationships with current UPMC sites and current non UPMC sites as well as recruitment and onboarding of new sites and including start up education, and go live clinical services needs.
• Oversee the planning and implementation of 2 large professional conferences yearly that attract approx. 200-250 attendees/conference ( Stroke Update and Acute Stroke Management Symposium). This includes work with CME office to secure educational grants, identification of vendors to attend and support conference, recruitment of speakers and planning if agenda/topics with planning staff, and day of conference oversight of all activities to ensure smooth delivery and execution.
• Recruit and maintain staffing allotments for both UPMC and PITT funded positions.
• Report every 6 months at UPMC PUH - Total Quality Counsel meeting on quality data and metrics collected for UPMC Stroke Institute at PUH and CSC certification status.
• Responsible for maintaining comprehensive stroke center certification at UPMC PUH - involves much interaction and responsibility for clinically based hospital departments and services.
• Responsible for seeking and implementing marketing strategies with corporate communications for the UPMC stroke institute to increase market share, visibility, and capacity.
• Serve as a resource to all UPMC facility stroke coordinators, ED leadership, and nursing leadership in requirements and maintenance of Primary stroke Center certification.
• Work collaboratively with nursing leadership and clinicians at bedside to ensure that stroke care delivery and documentation meets requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of clinical experience required.
• 3 years of experience in the department specialty preferred.
• BSN, MSN preferred.
• The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients as specified below.
• They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 33, 34 and 73 are required within the first 30 days of employment
  • ACLS within 12 months of beginning employment
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
