We are an Orthopedic Practice, located on the campus of UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. We are looking for a candidate that has research experience, data collection, strong phone skills, excellent organizational and record keeping ability. Candidate should demonstrate proficient ability to work with computer programs in the research field such as Matrix Ray; iSite vault and DICOM. Candidate should possess strong independent work skills, ability to show initiative and ability to work on task and meet deadlines (when applicable).

This individual will be responsible for working closely with orthopedic surgeons who do research including writing and publishing papers, journal articles and rely on a research assistant to gather, sort, enter, and track data and progress markers for research purposes. 


The Research Assistant provides support as needed to the department. Performs literature searches and assists in the preparation of professional manuscripts and grant proposals and will also be responsible for data collection, entry, and management.

  • Assist in data management.
  • Conduct literature searches.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with stakeholders and internal staff.
  • Organize references and materials for research projects and content areas.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings and seminars, both internally and externally.
  • Perform data collection and entry.
  • Provide support for grant proposal and manuscript development and submission.


  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a related field, or current enrollment, with some experience in research environment. 
  • Experience in the area of public health, psychology, applied research or behavioral health is preferred. 
  • Strong written and verbal skills. 
  • Detail oriented. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and the ability to learn various software packages as needed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
