  • Perform invasive techniques required for patient care needs according to department policies and/or state protocols or as ordered by a medical command physician

  • Operate emergency vehicles including; ambulances, wheel chair and stretcher vans under the routine and emergency conditions in a safe and controlled manner
  • Perform history and physical examinations to assemble the clinical magnifications of patients in all age groups in order to provide the appropriate treatment and care in the Prehospital setting
  • Provide patient treatment and care including administering medications in the proper dose and correct route, following the appropriate DOH Bureau of EMS state protocols or a medical command physician order
  • Perform vehicle and equipment inspections daily as outlined in policy, notify on-duty supervisor of damaged, defective, missing equipment and maintenance issues with vehicles and complete required documentation
  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Assess and perform rescue procedures on-scene to assure they are performed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Perform patient care appropriate to the state scope of practice in SH ED?s when not on a call, under the medical command physician ONLY. The function is a support role and the paramedic cannot be considered part of the regularly scheduled ED staffing.
  • Commit to high quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Understand that patient safety is everyone's responsibility. Assume responsibility for personal education and performance related to patient safety; report unsafe conditions or events immediately; speak up in a non confrontational and educational manner when seeing a safety breech; develop or participate in a project or action plan to reduce risk or mitigate harm for patients, as appropriate.
  • Perform critical care transports, managing ill or injured patients following state protocols and/or orders from a medical command physician. This may include providing patient care (including for long distances) as a single Advanced Life Support provider using advanced protocols and medications approved by the state
  • Direct Prehospital providers: EMT's, First Responders, etc. in the care of the patients in the Prehospital setting
  • Perform interfacility and Prehospital transportation services of ALS, BLS, emergency and non-emergency transports of patients both local and out of region or out of state. Transportation services include; mobile intensive care unit, ambulance, wheel chair and stretcher van


One year pre-hospital EMS experience at the advanced life support provider level preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certified Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Required.

Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License Required.

Critical Care Certification Required within one year of hire.

Completion of Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health approved EVOC course.
