As Senior Director, you are responsible for team of Business and Clinical Analysts who perform analytics for the quality, safety, patient experience and other related functions for the Wolff Center. Takes a leadership role in the enhancement, development, documentation, and communication of identified variances. To successfully perform this role, the Sr. Director must understand the causes of clinical trends and anomalies. This position will manage the organization of all data and information gathered to support, and monitor the performance of the health service division's initiatives in accordance with company requirements and customer expectations. The Sr. Director also provides oversight and direction for the P4P teams in the Wolff Center. Requires expertise in alignment of regulatory requirements with clinical and financial reporting to drive improvement.The Sr. Director, Quality Analytics and Performance must use their knowledge and expert understanding of financial, clinical and other information generated by numerous sources to identify opportunities to improve quality, safety and patient experience outcomes, as well as mentor varying levels of leadership and analyst staff. Furthermore, the position requires the ability to articulate these opportunities to internal and external audiences, implement the solutions, and track and monitor progress. These functions must be done while also weighing the practical considerations and potential barriers that exist when successfully implementing new programs and processes. Oversight of STS, NSQIP, ACC, Health Catalyst, UHC, all CMS, payer quality incentive program, alternative payment models, and all future registries.


  • Identifying trends, investigating variances, and deriving solutions to quality, patient safety, and patient experience issue.
  • Creates an excellent employee environment at the Wolff Center.
  • Assist in bridging Cost data with Quality outcomes and supporting the UPMC service line initiatives throughout all specialties.
  • Manage special projects.
  • Partnering with subject matter experts in Finance, Operations, Clinical, and other areas to develop analyses and recommendations.
  • Supports the creation a learning environment. 
  • Coaches and advises peer professional staff in the formulation of their development plan.
  • Monitor health services division operating performance against regional, national and international quality, patient safety and patient experience benchmarks.
  • Supporting development of training / mentoring curriculum that teaches varying levels of analysts how to effectively analyze and present recommendations and demonstrate value.
  • Implementing and monitoring effectiveness of analysis and recommendations.
  • Leading the analysis and performance of clinical, operational, and financial data for all facets of the Wolff Center resulting in recommendations that improve performance and demonstrate value.
  • Developing standard analytical quality, safety and patient experience reports for internal use and presentation to external customers to support analysis and recommendations.
  • Ensuring the Wolff Center strategic pillars and annual goals are facilitated and accomplished through consistent data abstraction, data extraction, data analysis and data governance
  • Effectively participates and engages in activities to support and achieve UPMC strategic goals.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Quality Officer, the Sr. Director will assist in establishing the overall strategic direction of the Wolff Center for the support of all enterprise wide functions.
  • Continually identify areas of resource opportunity and harmonize duplicative efforts throughout the quality, patient safety and patient experience areas
  • Provides collaborative leadership on a consistent basis that smoothes the interface points within the complex matrix environment that includes UPMC, employed physicians, private practice and the local initiatives.

  • Master's degree in business, mathematics, statistics, healthcare, management or related field required
  • Minimum of ten years experience in healthcare (financial/medical/marketing) 
  • Superior computer skills with financial & statistical software packages.
  • Strong prioritization and project management skills as well as in-depth healthcare operations knowledge combined with thorough understanding of analysis and presentation, underlying business processes and the ability to assess how process changes impact organizational performance
  • Ability to proactively prioritize time-sensitive requests for information with finite resource.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with other departments / divisions for knowledge transfer, influence and coach decision makers vis a vis best approaches, interpret results and advise internal customers on underlying trends / potential causes as well as recommended course of action.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position, with demonstrated competency in customer orientation and the ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Experience in effective presentation of efforts to multi-professional executive groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
  • Able to lead groups independently and facilitate change across a large complex organization.
  • Comfortable presenting to Sr. Executives and Board of UPMC.
