This is a Full Time position working Rotating Day and Evening Shifts.  

  

Purpose:
Assists with food preparation, prepares trays, serves food in dining room and cleans after meals. Delivers and retrieves food carts from nursing units. Assists cook and cooks assistant as required. Responsible for compliance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing dietary, as may be directed by the Director of Dietary to assure that quality nutritional services are provided on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands and prepares therapeutic diets.
  • Checks food requisition needs on each nursing unit and replenishes to par level.
  • Performs cleaning duties in kitchen, serving area, and resident dining area including keeping resident dining room tables clean. Prepares nourishments and places them in the nourishment station of the Nurses Station.
  • Assists with resident food related activities and special functions.
  • Assists new employees in following established dietary and facility policies and procedures. Reports suspected or know resident abuse to the Director of Nursing or Administrator immediately.
  • Serves food on tray line according to instructions and responds to resident preferences and dislikes.
  • Reports for work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  • Completes all cleaning of work area and equipment, along with special cleaning assignments as directed to maintain sanitation standards.
  • Attends in-service meetings and mandatory in-services.
  • Reports suspected or known resident abuse to the Director of Nursing or Administrator immediately.
  • Prepares dining room for next meal
  • Delivers and retrieves food carts to and from the nursing units.
  • Consistently works cooperatively and pleasantly with all staff, residents, family members and others. Accepts assigned duties in a cooperative manner. Follows established performance standards and performs duties according to dietary service policies and procedures.
  • Carves and portions meat for serving hot foods on tray line
  • Responsible for meeting meal schedules assuring safe food temperatures are maintained. Responsible for meeting meal schedules assuring safe food. Responsible for safe operation and care of food service equipment.
  • Prepares food as directed by Daily Spread Sheet.
  • Prepares food using safe food handling techniques and produces cost effective meals. Prepares food which is palatable and appetizing in appearance and taste.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services as required.
  • Assists in training of part-time dietary aides as assigned. Substitutes for cooks assistant on an as-needed basis.
  • Sets up dining room according to predetermined menu, portions and prices to serve residents and visitors.
  • Observes Infection Control and Standard Precaution policies and procedures. Follows Resident Rights policy and procedures at all times. Observes all facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Collects trays and prepares dish washing. Performs dish washing procedures on all meal trays, pots and pans and food service utensils and equipment.
  • Follows oral and written directions. Follows written menus and standardized recipes to produce acceptable products.
  • Prepares and portions foods as assigned according to directions to assure consistent quality of products.
  • Anticipates and acts to maintain a safe work environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily work practice.
  • Answers telephone courteously when supervisor is not in immediate area.
  • Follows cleaning list for daily assignments.

  • Checks special diet trays to be sure they are accurate.
  • Assists in preparation of food as directed. Prepares trays and serves foods according to menus. Checks tray-line trays with menu cards in addition to performing other tray-line responsibilities of dietary aides such as: calling menu cards, operating cold food station, and operating the beverage station. Serves food in dining room.

 

Qualifications

High School Graduate of equivalent required.Previous experience in quantity and institutional cooking required.Positive interpersonal skills to interact with others required
