Sr. UX Designer

Description

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. UX Designer in its Consumer Innovation department, located in downtown Pittsburgh at the Heinz 57 Center.


As a UX Designer at UPMC Health Plan, you’re a problem-solver, working to discover, investigate and understand complicated health insurance issues. To improve the experience and healthcare journey of our members, you will collaborate with Visual Designers, Researchers, and Product Managers in an interdisciplinary environment.


UX Designers work across the digital product lifecycle, from problem-framing with business stakeholders and user research, to designing experiences, validating designs through testing, and delivering them to software development teams. In your role, you’ll have the opportunity to wireframe, prototype, and design interactions, as well as participate in information design and architecture.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Work across multiple products and projects, scoping, setting strategy, planning, and managing work for UX teams on large-scale projects.
  • Provide UX leadership to and mentor junior UX Designers in a highly collaborative environment. Plan and lead design critiques.
  • Manage stakeholders’ expectations during product development process.
    Apply knowledge of human-computer interaction and human information processing principles to digital design.
  • Apply an articulated design process to product and project work.
  • Work closely with software developers based on a solid understanding of software development and a scrum/agile approach.
  • Write and deliver effective UX/UI specifications to software developers and technical QA team members.
  • Translate user research to insights that inform product direction.
  • Understand and apply analytics to triangulate areas for product improvement and work with teams to identify and implement new product metrics.
  • Act as a bridge between business subject matter experts and developers to frame problems, visualize, and refine requirements through rapid prototyping.
  • Lead stakeholder and user research and workgroup sessions using human-centered design methods to frame problems and explore solutions.
  • Understand business stakeholders’ goals and objectives and how they relate to and impact product decisions.
  • Participate in innovation sprints to explore new product and service ideas.
  • Use prototyping and design tools such as Axure RP and Sketch at an expert level.
  • Experience working closely and communicating efficiently and effectively with software engineers in an agile/scrum environment.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in design, UX, product development, communication, anthropology, psychology or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or comparable degree and/or experience.) Master's degree preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a consumer product design, service design, product development or related role (required). Related educational experience including internship/externship will be considered.
  • Minimum of 4 years conducting qualitative and quantitative research through methods such as interviewing, observation, surveys, participation activities, and document and literature reviews.
  • Successful synthesis and analysis of findings. Experience in the health care or insurance industries a plus.
  • Experience leading the entire design process from user research, insights, ideation, prototyping & iteration, detailed design and bridging to implementation.
  • Experience with digital product development with proven ability to translate business and user problems into solid solutions (preferred).
  • Experience in the following with depth of expertise in several of the following: Information Architecture, User Research, Usability Testing, Interaction Design, Content Strategy, Human Factors, Visual and Information Design, Ethnographic Research.
  • Working knowledge of design tools including but not limited to Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Axure, UserTesting.com, Optimal Workshop, or equivalent software.
