The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient's medical program goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocols/guidelines; managing resources in a cost effective manner; participating in performance improvement efforts, and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.


  • Oversees food service staff when assigned. Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy. Knowledge of foodservice principles and practices within a health care environment. Provides nutrition care to the appropriate outpatient clinics as assigned. Communicates with the medical team through. Daily rounding in the ICUs, Trauma Rounds and Stroke Rounds as assigned and documents in Interdisciplinary Plan of Care Form.
  • Counsels individuals and families in nutritional principles, diet modifications, food selections, and economics; and adapts teaching plans to individual's life style. Makes decisions about the nutritional care of the patient by using assessment data to implement a plan of nutritional care with short and long range goals. Responds to physician consults and documents in the patient's medical record in a timely manner. Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record and nutrition care plan. Assists in the monitoring of activities pertinent to the Nutrition Services CPI program consistent with the Hospital program.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation and progress towards goals. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms to patients, employees, public, physicians and other members of the healthcare team (i.e. Nursing, Social Services).
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize tasks and work independently.
  • Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.Reviews current literature regularly to ensure most recent advancements in nutrition care are incorporated into nutrition practices and protocols.Provides community events and nutrition programs.


*Experience with oncology and radiation patients preferred.  Nutrition Education experience preferred.

Bachelor's degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, or related area, from an accredited university or college. 

Completion of a program in dietetics that is approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetics Association. 

Registered Dietitian or eligible for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. 

  • Must pass examination within one year from hire date. 

Certification/Licensure as required by state of practice is encouraged but not required.
