UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Business Analyst II in its newly-formed BUDDI team (Behavioral Unit for Digitally Developed Interventions), located in downtown Pittsburgh at the Heinz 57 Center.  BUDDI will oversee the strategy and deployment of digital interventions for members and patients across the IDFS.  The unit will be helping UPMC scale clinical and coaching services through digital apps, and perform analysis of data and information for various UPMC products.


  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to formulate and complete full cycle analysis that includes data gathering, analysis, self-service deliverables, and presentations.
  • Produce PowerBI analytics dashboards to showcase product performance for executive stakeholders.
  • Create in depth analysis, tools and dashboard to highlight digital behaviors that drive user engagement and clinical outcomes .
  • Build ROI analysis of digital programs investigating staffing model cost savings and medical utilization.
  • Support product team with product analytics including cohort analysis, A/B testing, regression models and user-journey funnel optimization and program outcomes.
  • Investigate data errors/variances and derive solutions with appropriate follow-up monitoring for data validation and quality assurance.
  • Extract data from a variety of internal sources via complex SQL queries, proficiency with relational databases, data transformation and data mining.
  • Perform statistical analysis with SAS, R or Python.

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or related business field required. Master's degree preferred. Extensive related experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience in financial and/or medical analysis required.
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, with expert knowledge in Access, Excel, Crystal Reports, Cognos Reports, and other financial & statistical software packages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position.

  • Advanced mathematical skills. Ability to interpret and summarize results of various analyses in a timely and meaningful way.

  • Knowledge and good understanding of all products and benefit designs of UPMC Health.
