Description
Purpose:This Oncology Clinical Coordinator will work with the Stem Cell Transplant team at the Mario Lemieux Center within the Hillman Cancer Center Immunotherapy Car-T Cell Therapy program.
This position will work a regular full time Monday-Friday daylight schedule focusing on the emerging field of Cellular Therapy, specifically CAR-T cell therapy.
Responsibilities:
- The coordinator will provide patient education, facilitate T-Cell harvesting, and coordinate shipment/receipt of the cells for engineering.
- Triage acutely ill patients. Will work closely with physicians to determine patients’ plan of care.
- Orient staff to new policies and procedures.Serves as a resource to the members of any department working with the transplant team.
- Attends weekly team meeting and gives patient/donor reportAttends monthly FACT meeting.
- Communicates with the Managers of the outpatient unit at the Hillman Cancer Center and hospital inpatient unit (7W) related to admissions, complicated patient/family issues and other needed consultations.
- For patients involved in the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), the following applies: Conducts preliminary search Conducts formal search Coordinates scheduling of the transplant with all appropriate departments Sends weekly communication report to the NMDP Completes NMDP training and orientation-formal classes Submits data to the NMDP in a timely fashion Assists with and /or completes data required
- Coordinates the scheduling of intakes.Sends educational information and informational letters to patients/donors.Meets with the patient/donor/family at intake with the transplant physician.Reviews the plan and education with the patient/donor.Coordinates pre testing schedule and line placement.Assists with insurance clearance (i.e. send H&P to Case Manager, other tests, consent or protocol if requested.Dictates the note following intake and sends a copy to the referring physicianReviews the consent with the patient and obtains appropriate signatures.Completes eligibility checklist, reviews any abnormal findings with the physician, and obtains physician sign off.Schedules inpatient/outpatient admission ( mobilization and transplant)
- Completes the following prior to admission of the patient: Chemotherapy orders Consents Treatment grid-sends to appropriate departments HSC lab requisition All other information (testing results, etc) related to the eligibility check list
- Schedules pheresis for patients/donors.Coordinates pheresis schedule daily with Pheresis Dept. and HSC lab as appropriate.Registers patient for IBMTR, ABMTR.Arranges donor typing for patients.
- Programmatic development including: Reviewing and writing policies and procedures
- Serves on a quality team management committee and gives report at FACT meeting as appropriate.
- Quality management- performing audits, watching trends and implementing change based on trends.Report out at quality meetings regarding data
Qualifications
- Demonstrated competence in professional nursing practice.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Five (5) years nursing experience with three (3) years in clinical specialty.
- One (1) year of current experience in clinical specialty.
- Strong oncology nursing skills preferred
- Transplant experience preferred
- BSN preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
