Description

Purpose:
Building UPMC global capability by making a critical connections between UPMC needs and destinations where UPMC knowledge is required. Global Mobility is supporting the human capital needs of the business that requires employees to move around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and analyzing global mobility trends and developments in the international markets and sectors relevant to UPMC and making changes to policies and practices as needed.
  • Internationalizes university outreach programs, including scholarship and co-op programs, corporate partnering initiatives, and career fair participation for delivery in countries.
  • Directs the establishment and maintenance of a standardized record keeping and filing system in compliance with corporate directives for all global mobility activities.
  • Providing consultancy services/advice and collaborative support regarding the interpretation and execution of UPMC's international assignment policies and practices.
  • Ensures tax reporting is timely and accurate working with payroll as well as other needed departments.
  • Maintain awareness of foreign geopolitical climate and advise on risks to the business and identify ways to mitigate those risks.
  • Reviewing the program on a periodic basis to look for ways to manage costs without compromising the integrity of the program.
  • Manage exceptions to allow flexibility, yet fairness in administration of policies and practices.
  • Construct the expatriate process from package creation to repatriation and regularly look for ways to improve the process and reduce cost
  • Identify gaps in our Temporary Assignment and Expatriate policies to ensure UPMC remains competitive while meeting the needs of the business.
  • Maintains high degree of cultural awareness and has the ability to work with many diverse cultures
  • Interfaces with network of country human resources personnel to establish and maintain a system of internal candidate sourcing, referral and placement to fill full-time and temporary staff needs.
  • Partner with other departments in UPMC including HR, Legal, Finance, Benefits, and Compensation to maintain a global talent management strategy.
  • Improve global mobility process management and developing tools to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Build cross border packages within market and budget constraints ensuring tax effectiveness and compliance.
  • Maintain relations with all business unit staff (office, field, administrative and financial) within region, providing feedback on issues and concerns and ensuring superb customer service.
  • Utilizes the succession planning process to identify candidates and create appropriate packages to facilitate mobility.
  • Actively participates in professional groups in relevant disciplines to insure continuous market information and ability to bring new ideas and solutions to the table.
  • Improve the repatriation process: involve home & host Regions/Practices - monitor returning assignees for 12 months.
  • Capture and circulate best practices for the mobility life-cycle.
  • Work with Business Leaders and HR Partners to maintain an up-to-date forecast of global mobility needs.
  • Provide HR expertise for business development purposes, with an emphasis on global mobility.
  • Analyze and propose international HR data for business development and emerging market surveys.
  • Consult with business unit leaders on global mobility processes and assist in decision making related to global mobility.
  • Provide support regarding the interpretation and execution of UPMC's HR policies and practices.
  • Provide support for UPMC seconded employees.
  • Support Legal on the Secondment Agreement process for UPMC employees working abroad.
  • Manage Visa and Work Permit processes for UPMC employees working abroad.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field, or relevant paralegal experience required. 
  • Five years of global mobility experience, or equivalent International, Finance, or Legal experience required. 
  • Previous experience working with leadership required. 
  • Master's degree a plus, but not required. 
  • International travel may be required. 
  • Global Mobility Specialist (GMS) certification preferred.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    GMS certification preferred.
