Community Health Technician, Paramedic


UPMC Health Plan is hiring casual Community Health Technician, Paramedics to help support the Connect Community Paramedics department.


This position will work on a casual as-needed basis for UPMC Health Plan clinics being held in the Greater Pittsburgh community areas. A minimum of one shift every 6 months is required. Reliable transportation is also required.

This position offers a competitive pay rate of $18.57/hr.

The Community Health Technician is responsible for registering and then guiding patients through the health screening /community health process. The technician must set up and calibrate equipment as well as collect patient samples for the purpose of analyzing blood glucose and a total lipid panel. Blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) will also be assessed. The Paramedic also assists the Community Health Team Manager as required. The Paramedic will also be able to do the in-home assessments if they choose to pick up those shifts. They would be conducting bone-density screenings, blood draws, and possibly urine samples for the lab. 



  • Assist with photocopying, marketing material assembly, data input, and phone call follow-up
  • Perform duties in accordance with scope of Paramedic certification
  • Assist with disease management and other preventive health services, including planning, implementation, service delivery and evaluation of these programs as requested
  • Assist health coaches with patient education as needed


  • Paramedic required
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in public health, EMS, health screenings or other health related field 
  • Proficient in MS Word/Excel 
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management, EMTs/paramedics, and program participants 
  • Reliable transportation 
  • Ability to work early morning hours and weekend hours as necessary

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Previous or current Paramedic certification
