Are you ready to work on the cutting edge of technology & healthcare delivery?  Are you excited to be part of a community of people who care deeply about changing healthcare through innovation?  As one of the few integrated delivery & financing systems in the country, as well as a leading academic medical center & health system, UPMC is uniquely positioned to move quickly and creatively in the telehealth space.  The Telehealth team at UPMC Health Plan is working to leverage telehealth technologies & applications to make health care delivery more convenient, lower cost, and more member-centric.  As the Director of Telehealth Strategy & Solutions, you will be part of our team of rock stars focused on strategic planning around telehealth for the UPMC Health Plan & overseeing the implementation of that strategy.  You’ll work alongside colleagues in product development, digital health, technology, business transformation, and human-centered design, and have the opportunity to collaborate with business & clinical partners across the UPMC system and beyond. 



Responsibilities:

  • Work consultatively with senior executives, business and clinical leadership across the organization to understand the strategic goals and priorities of UPMC and develop the aligned telehealth strategy to support those goals.  Collaborate with leadership across lines of business to develop telehealth access strategies for specific populations such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Behavioral Health.  Think across dimensions of product, network, marketing, population health and quality improvement, partnering with leaders in these areas on ways telehealth can support their respective goals.  
  • Develop strategic plan presentations and documents.  Research and analyze potential strategic opportunities, clinical use cases, technologies, and partnerships, developing business cases and executive communications to help senior leadership make decisions & prioritize across opportunities. 
  • Develop the delivery plans for our strategic initiatives, then oversee that delivery.  In some cases there will be large project teams to support the work, and in other cases you may be managing the day to day work.  Hold teams accountable to milestones, ensuring high quality work is submitted by established deadlines.
  • Lead communications to internal stakeholders on key topics including: work underway, success stories, learnings and future roadmap.  Ensure accurate reporting of project progress is established.  Establish KPIs that tie to value and business objectives in program development, members served, profitability, expenses, and/or customer satisfaction.
  • Be a subject matter expert for the UPMC system on telehealth delivery, technology, reimbursement, outcomes, and experience. Evangelize telehealth to internal and external stakeholders to get people excited and seeing the value and potential of the technology.  
  • Understand the industry & competitive marketplace around telehealth delivery & access.  Identify and assess new emerging trends and innovations in the space. Lead external conversations to drive an outside-in perspective to drive ideas.   Execute and oversee new partnerships, including legal, privacy and security with third parties. 
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, training and coaching of team members.

Qualifications

  • 10 years or more of work experience, at least 5 years in payor/provider preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success leading complex strategic initiatives involving multiple matrixed or cross-functional teams, providing direction to teams, managing to a fast pace, overcoming roadblocks and securing resources where needed. 
  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written, with executive presence, the ability to build strong relationships with peers, and the ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated organized, detail-oriented, and structured thinking and execution, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously and adjust priorities as needed in order to meet deadlines, demonstrating a high level of independent judgment and pro-activity.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business, healthcare, information systems or related area is preferred, with a minimum of 6 years of related experience is required.
  • Experience leading business development initiatives at the director level is preferred.
  • Prior experience with operations, budgets, planning and implementation strategy development is required.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to effectively interact with all levels of staff.
