Job description
The UPMC Sports Concussion Program (APPIC #9139) is seeking applicants for a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship position. The UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program is involved in concussion management at all levels of sports participation, including professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational. The program is based within the department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine. The UPMC Sports Medicine concussion program works in congruence with the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panthers and is adjacent to the team's indoor training facility.
The UPMC concussion program is the largest in the country, with six attending Clinical Neuropsychologists who work as part of a multidisciplinary team including Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Primary Care Sports Medicine, Neurovestibular Rehabilitation, NeuroSurgery, NeuroRadiology, Behavioral NeuroOptometry, and Physical Therapy, including both musculoskeletal evaluations and sport-specific exertion therapy. Fellow duties will primarily consist of brief and extended neuropsychological evaluations of child and adult athletes with sports and recreation-related concussion. In addition, the clinic receives referrals for neuropsychological evaluations of patients with non-sport TBI, as well as other neurological and psychiatric disorders. The volume of patient referrals is high and extensive programmatic research is ongoing. Involvement in research is encouraged through the provision of dedicated research time on a weekly basis.
The appointment is a 24-month, full time position, beginning in August/September 2020. A doctoral degree in psychology, completion of an APA-accredited internship, and training in neuropsychological assessment are required.
